Hello. I am finally remaking the post for the modpack I'm working on. It's called 'ASTHENOS' and it's been on and off for the past few months, but this time I think I might actually finish it.

Asthenos is a pack based on a story I wrote for a NaNoWriMo. The story tells the tale of a cyborg as he walks a burning wasteland after a moderately evil research corporation got careless with their research. A month or so ago, after playing the new Horizons pack, I discovered a mod called "Matter Overdrive" by Simeonradivoev (You can find it here http://www.curse.com/mc-mods/minecraft/229694-matter-overdrive). For those who are curious, Matter Overdrive is a mod similar to Equivalent Exchange except a load more balanced. Of it's many features, it allows the player to become an android . This immediately reminded me of my story and such the beginning of ASTHENOS unfurled. Enough about the lore though, you probably don't care about that.

What does ASTHENOS offer as a modpack? I'll compile this into bullets in order to save time, both yours and mine.

  • A new take on the "Stranded" theme. Have you ever gotten sick of all those skyblock modpacks that make constant use of Ex Nihilo? Simply sick of skyblock maps all together? ASTHENOS takes the general idea of those and reforms it into a whole new experience. The map is a preset for a molten wasteland, with the top twenty to thirty blocks being lava. Scattered across the wasteland are barren island, dungeons, and broken down facilities for you to explore and loot (Except the barren islands... they happen to be pretty barren). Hidden beneath the ocean of lava is an ore rich expanse of stone, but you better watch out for the mobs that'll spawn down there.
  • Androids! Need I say more? Oh well, I suppose I better. Like I mentioned before, Matter Overdrive adds the option for the player to become an android once they have the resources. In ASTHENOS, you don't have to wait for those resources. Your an Android right from the start. Among others things, as an android you don't have to eat anymore. Yup, no food focus in this modpack. You still have to feed yourself, but in a different way. Androids survive off "Power" which means that they need Redstone Flux to survive. Grab your tuberous capacitors ladies and gentlemen.
  • Lore Expansion, HQM, and Custom NPC's oh my. I'm using the 'trifecta' of lore mods for Minecraft to create a unique experience. Taking after modpacks like Void World I will use several different mods to add quests that aren't from HQM. Don't worry, everything will still be neat and tidy in your sketchy little quest books and there will certainly be enough to keep you busy. I am still working out how they're gonna work though... but I have a few ideas.
  • No Ex Nihilo! This mod is WAAAAAY over used. It's just so tedious rubbing dust into a sieve for hours on end just to get a few iron ingots. I mean, I still enjoy myself a good grind but I would prefer a faster paced experience at this point. While never fear my friend, I found a new way for you to spend hours grinding. While, sort of. Some things modpack creators fail to realize is that the functions of Ex Nihilo are all available via some of the most used mods out there. All they need is to settle down with your mine/modtweaker and get working. Which brings me to my next point
  • Highly configured. I don't plan on intertwining mods to the point where you can't tell where one starts and the other ends, but there certainly will be a few intertwining tech/magicka trees. Using mods like Quadrum, ACE, and the previously mentioned Mine(Mod)Tweaker this pack will definitely give you a fresh and new experience.
  • LATEST AND GREATEST MODS. Along side mods we all know and love, I have included some of the lesser known one and I plan on using them extensively. There's not much more to say about that I guess XD. You'll just have to take my word on it.
Now that you know what this pack is about, you probably want to play it. Well... sorry folks. I don't have a stable build and it's not at all legal for distribution yet (Still awaiting permissions from creators). What you can do though is tell me whether your interested or not. Seriously, it helps when someone critiques you, even at the stage this is in.

Over powered RPG like active abilities
Slightly weaker but still over powered passive abilities.
Bionic Parts that increase health and add other passive buffs.
Cant get debuffs.
Battery can work with Quantum Flux to passively charge your battery.
No oxygen needed on the Moon or in Water.
No need for farming or food based gameplay.

On the other hand though...

Whenever you get attacked you will get a glitch effect on the screen. Although a minor inconvenience this could be the difference between life or death in some of the customNPC battles I have planned.
You will sink in water unless you upgrade yourself to prevent it.
You cant get potion buffs either.
This pack is in Hardcore Mode and when your power runs out your time ingame will dwindle. (There will be more than one life though)
I wasn't joking about the tuberous capacitors so there actually is a farming game in the beginning.

I am hard at work on this pack, so far I need to finish all aspects of world generation before working on the map or the quests.
The story is coming along awesomely but will not be revealed until the public release of the pack

So far there are several aspects of world generation

1. Recurrent Complex and Buildings
  • Artifacts, as I have taken to call them, are little decorations that dot the landscape for no other purpose than looking cool.
  • There are little bases that have rouge androids in them. Although not extraordinarily profitable, they are very good early sources of materials that would other wise be scarce
  • Android Fortresses. Large Forts that contain lots of spawners and loot. Very profitable mid to late game, but are rather challenging to conquer early game.
  • Mutant Scientist Lair. I'll let you guys imagine this one.
  • Elemental Fortresses [Basalz, Blitz, Blizz, and Blaze] Moderately sized chambers that contain spawners and fluids in them corresponding to their theme. Don't ask me why blizzes exist...
  • Little "Time Lesions" that are like divots with time sand in them. Although valuable due to having large amounts of Time Sand, they are also a major part of the plot.
  • The area you spawn in. I'm unsure of what I want to do with this, but I'm think along the lines of an abandoned outpost that is run down and looted.
2. Biomes and lots of Lava
  • The main biome, called a molten spire and what is seen in the Pre-Alpha screenshots, are massive mountains made out of basalt and lava. It is a modified Crag biome from BoP which means that at its highest points it could be cut off by the height limit.
  • Molten Ocean. Exactly what it sounds like, a large expanse of lava with Basalt below it.
  • Lava River. Exactly what it sounds like
  • Burning Beach [Subject to Removal] a beach made out of black sand that borders ocean biomes. Very small.
  • Volcanic Flatlands. An expanse of flat basalt that is similar to the extreme hills biome [Which TBH after seeing the Crag it's more like a plains biome]
  • and various tweaks to nether biomes to make them more immersive
3. Ore Generation

  • The ores will be generated using the fractal template for most cases and a modified uniform template for rare ores. This means all but the rarest ores will be found in dense veins that can be up to a 10^3 box. Although it seems OP finding such a vein will be rare.
  • There needs to be Custom Textures so the ores look similar to the basalt they generate in.
  • Fixing ingots and ores so you don't have 8 different coppers and 6 different tins.
  • Finding a balanced distribution to prevent an overwhelming surplus or lack of ores.
That's it for today. You can safely assume 1-2 updates on the pack creation every week from me. I expect the pack to be released in the April-June timezone [I know, it's a wide target zone but you can never know with a modpack] and I expect to need testers very soon. If anyone is interested please leave a reply to this thread stating so and I will contact you about it.

All textures for ores have been finished and can be found at the projects github at this link.

https://github.com/WarpCircuit/ASTHENOS---The-Molten-Wasteland/tree/master/Basalt Ores

Other changes include

  • Implementation of TriSteel. A mixture of Tritanium and Steel in the smeltery, dust crafting, or induction furnace that produces a very conductive and strong material. Used for tools and for most machines and parts.
  • Added several mods, most notably being IC2, Advanced Genetics, and Dynamic Lighting.
  • Slowly grinding out configs
  • Implementation of Red Hot Basalt and BlackSand. Use for aesthetic, world generation, and metadata purposes.
  • Finished character map
  • Extreme Crafting for Project E
  • Several Changed to Biome's
  • Green Heart Canister Recipe
  • And finally the Blaze Elemental Dungeon

The pack is still in developement. Don't worry those who have been waiting.

Please do not try to pick up this pack up to make yourself. It is my personal project and I will get it removed if you release your copy to the public

I've been browsing through many packs, and I've finally seen a great one! As I'm hearing there's still a lot to be added, I'm looking forward to be playing this and the updates. Good luck and make sure you don''t give up.

It's been a long time since I made any major strides in development with this pack. I'm going to amend that by updating it to 1.8.9 for this modpacks release. I know I said I could do bi-weekly updates but TBH pack dev is long and tiring at points and sometimes you just kinda burn out on it. Fortunately, I'm determined to get this pack completed. A realistic release date would be in the summer, potentially later if I start another project.

Ok, in the spawning point, there WOULD be a Magmatic generator right?

Is anyone actually interested in this still? I haven't touched it in ages and I sort of forgot about it over time. Summer break is starting soon though and I can come back to it if there are potential players.

Hoping you keep at it, sounds like some original content. If you need any help getting it finished I'm sure there are plenty on this forum who would leap at the chance (myself included).

Ok :). I will continue to work on this in my spare time. Due to classes though, the release date will be delayed several months for me to get reorganized and sort of reboot this project for the third time.
