Hi Guys,

Im new to the forum, so apologies ahead of time if i am not following procedure. I currently am using my laptop to play Vanilla minecraft. I generally get good FPS rates between 60 and 70 consistently on Vanilla 1.7.4. Ive tried to play FTB, and am coming across a bit of a problem. When i first start playing my FPS seems to be around 50 which is plenty good enough for me. The problem is that as i play, the FPS seems to drop constantly. Its not spiking down it just seems to go down and down until it eventually hits about 10. Staring up at the sky gets it to increase back up again but when i then look straight ahead it seems to drop again. At this point in the game i havent built or crafted anything, or moved very far away from spawn. My Laptop is fairly new. It is running intel 4000 HD Graphics which i know is not fantastic. Im not expecting super fast performance, just something playable. The rest of the specs of my machine are as follows

Processor - Intel Core i5 (3rd Gen) 3337U
Ram - 12GB
HDD - 256gb Samsung 840 Evo Pro
OS - Windows 8.1

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Are you running 64bit Java? Have you allocated at least 2GB RAM to the game in the launcher(You need 64bit java for this)? Dont allocate more than 2GB unless you use a highres texture pack, if so then allocate 3-4GB(although I don't recommend using a texture pack with a onboard GFX).
Also you can try out this:
http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/jvm-arguments-for-modded-minecraft-updated-12-30-13.28994/

If you are playing 1.4.7 packs you can get a rather significant boost by using Optifine. The boost is debatable with 1.5.2 packs and downright recommended against with 1.6 packs.

Hi rhn, thanks for the quick reply. i am running 64 bit java and have been allocating around 4gb of ram to FTB through the launcher. im only using the standard texture pack so will try again with only 2gb of ram and see what happens. Thanks for the tips and i'll be sure to post back the results.

okay, so ive tried again with only 2 GB of ram and the problem is still there, although i did notice it takes longer for the FPS to get to the point where it's unplayable. i tried the java arguements in the link above, but the new updated launcher spits out errors in the console. I've just created a new lonely island map and adjusted the render distance to near, which is giving me an FPS of around 35 at the minute. i will carry on playing and see what happens. thanks again for your help
