As an independant Minecraft fan, this is what I feel ModJam needs.

Anonymity doesn't work, all it takes is someone looking at the idea, or "knowing" and someone will spill the beans (be they real or imagined).

I kind of do have to agree with this. I personally know that a couple of my friends when experimenting, went right for the mods that the big names had made first because the big names were well known.(I had no time to look D: ) I only know that that two of them actually spent time looking at other mods. And there's also the issue that Mevansuto mentioned that people wouldn't exactly spend so much of their time looking at ALL the mods. That would be impossible. On the contrary, people would want to get the most out of their time (and vote) and vote for the big names. If they did look at any other mods, they would merely give a cursory look before going on. And Searge saying that the competition consists of people doing it for fun and for the satisfaction is kind of wrong. A LOT of people participate in Modjam hoping that they would get recognized, become an official, popular modder and join the big names. There's also then, the benefit of being donated to and accruing money through adfly, etc. Of course I acknowledge that others might participate in Modjam for the fun, but there are those in it for the $.

Popular voting and Popularity contest are two different things. People are voted based on their popularity in general, not for the quality of the mod they create.

then thats where the problem lies I guess... -_- I did vote on hydraulicraft since I got a gut feeling about Sync and Steve's factory manager being in the top tier

ChickenBones mod came third... not to be mistaken with CB himself but the mod that makes stuff out of chickens

My bad. Just read it came 4th. Now who made the ChickenBones mod? Other than Calclavia's mod, all the other mods that got votes were by unknowns.

BTW did people not like Calclavia's I thought it was brilliant. Weird alien robots that look like lines. What's not to love?

I don't follow modjam at all. can someone give me a gist of the situation
Basically people are creating controversy because they feel the competition, which is a test of modder's skill to see what they can create in 96 hours, is based off of general populrity to the modder with no regard to the competition.

Can we go ONE day in this community without drama? I'm a natural pot-stirrer and I'm completely over it. Some stuff is just what's on the label. I never thought of modjam as a nefarious affair.

Regarding the drama, it, for me, has reached this point.

So I'll be taking a step back from this now. I'm bored of it.

Not really followed the trail, but surely the most "fair" way would be to have all the mods available, but not identified as to who made the mod. The mods are tested, and voted upon based then purely on content.
Votes are tallied up, results are posted, and the authors of the mods are revealed.

After all, it's basically product testing, and you don't identify the brand of cornflake you are eating until after the scoring.

Truthfully while Sync is a good mod I personally think Steve's Factory Manager is a gamechanger and is a better mod, I also have just installed the Laser Mod\Doggy Talents (both remakes of 1.2.5 mods I loved) and am keeping an eye on Oceania once it has a bit more content I'll probably grab it.
