I recently decided that I wanted to join a server, however I do not have the slightest idea how to go about finding one I would be able to join. I am hoping to join a private server to avoid griefers. Do any of you know of one willing to have me?

Whitelist means only invited on the server so it is what you are looking for.
As a second idea:
With a bit of klowledge it is totally easy to set up a FTB server, and minecaft hosting is not that expensive. So you can invite some people on you own and make the rules.
