Been looking for a while now and haven't found it yet. I need a FTB server to call home. I'm looking for a whitelisted community run server. Willing to try any modpack though Infinity hard is preferred.

I don't want a server that someone's thrown together that's going to disappear in a few months. I want to join a community that has a forum, Reddit sub, Discord, whatever. Basically somewhere that has ways of communicating past server chat. Been scouring the server forum and Reddit a while. Most I've found are free-for-all lag fests or servers with 1 or 2 people on.

I'm a 39 year old guy from London, UK so Euro preferred though not essential. Can't be doing with drama or kids.

Please let me know if such a thing exists..

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Good news: such servers do exist. Bad news: They're about as rare as rocking horse shit.

Right now I'm playing the infinity skyblock thingy on the Mine Your Mind network.

Its a fairly big community with their own forum, and they use their own custom plugins for grief protection/lag management ect... so the world is actually pretty safe for an open server.
Chunkloading is limited to their own custom system- which costs proportionally to how much server processing power you're using. One of the fairest systems I've ever seen.
TPS is a little low [some machines run a little slower], but I've rarely had any connection related issues or been stuck out due to downtime/maintenance.
Server chat is fairly mature, haven't used the teamspeak channel yet but I'd guess its the same.

I liked the way you put that. LOL But yes, I'd say that's entirely accurate. I play on a server, but its a very small group, and they like to change modpacks way too soon due to players losing interest after just a few short weeks. It's kind of funny actually, but also kinda sad. It's like we play the early game over and over, with just a few getting into mid-game. Late game? Forget about it. None of us ever makes it that far and even if we did, we'd be playing single player on a multiplayer server. LOL That happened to me with Infitech2, and finally I offered to take the worldfile as a download and play it on my own computer so I wasn't wasting his time and money. He agreed.

Infitech 2 has a semi official server based in the EU

http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/thr...qm-gregtech-balanced-hard-mode-modpack.50185/

Official Site here: http://infitech.enjin.com/home

The Infitech discord that exists is the primary communication method besides in game.

That site looks amazing, my goodness they have hundreds of members! But there's already a disclaimer about lag (basically - it is what it is, deal with it LOL) and since I'm coming from across the pond, as they say... well, it sure would be great to play with a large group like that, I agree. But then the whole lag thing comes into play, bigtime. So it's a tradeoff, and that's why I decided on playing with the very small group despite their penchant for not sticking with packs very long. There's no lag whatsoever, it's like SSP in that regard. There's also no griefing since we're all friendly with each other. On a large server, you're guaranteed to have a few jerks in the mix I think. LOL

While I have had to deal with lag (i'm also across the pond), I've not met any jerks and everyone is pretty nice.

Right now I'm playing the infinity skyblock thingy on the Mine Your Mind network.

Yeah I had a look at MyM, along with a lot of others. They seem ok, I get a decent ping, no huge block lag I've noticed so far. As a pure server to play on it seems fine, as are a fair few I've found. The thing is, I'm looking for more than that, or less, depending on how you look at it. MyM is a big public network of servers with all that goes with it. I don't sense a close knit community. It's perfectly ok for what it is.

I used to play on a vanilla server. It was whitelisted (well greylisted technically..) and had a core of 15 - 20 regulars I guess. We all knew each other, all helped each other. Grief protection wasn't even needed. The admin and mods played as much as the others. Every friday night we'd all jump on TS, get drunk and play cards against humanity until the early hours. It was great but I lost all interest in vanilla after discovering FTB. I've been looking for the same kind of community since but for modded minecraft. I guess you're right and it's just rare, maybe I'm just asking for too much I dunno.

If they were decent folk, try seeing if they are interested in checking out the mod scene. If even one or two give it a try, you can start your own community on a larger public server, then possibly migrate that community to a more private server if your mutual interest keeps up.

I know it's not a perfect answer, but jump onto a larger server and be the change you want to see. Start a little community with your neighbors and see where it goes. Sometimes, this can be as much fun as playing the game itself.

Yeah good shout. Most are really not interested in modded MC I'm afraid.

I may have found what I'm looking for though. Just been whitelisted on a server and it looks to have everything I've been looking for. Small whitelisted community, plenty of communication and chat going on outside the server via forums, irc, discord etc.

All good so far :)

How large of a community are you looking for? The reason I'm asking is I'm one of the managers of a community of gamers/friends. We are small and are looking for people to join us. We have a forum, team speak, Infinity and Skyblock Infinity servers. Pretty much all of us are 21+ (emphasis on the +) so drama isn't our thing. Only thing is we are based in the U.S and you said you preferred Europe. We do have someone in our community who is from the UK and one from Sweden who joins us on occasion. If you are interested I can send you a link to our forum.

Hope it works out for you. Feel free to share your progress over in the Community Showcase. I'd love to see how your new community grows with you.

Edit: I botched the quote somehow. Tried to fix it and failed. I'm over it.

You know, now that my group of friends have broken up (due to growing up), I've been looking for a group like what you are describing. Unfortunately, most servers like that are tight-knit, and aren't really open to new people.

I'm not sure if you saw the link in my previous post in this thread, but, I am trying to start a new server like that. If I'm successful, you are very welcome to join.

Ah that's very kind of you Trinity, thank you. I may have found what I've been looking for now though so will give it a shot with these guys. Best of luck with your recruitment though :)
