Strengthened Glass vs Iron Tank Gauge.

Identical aesthetically. Cept the prior needs saltpeter, which is a pain to get.

Your opinions?

Are you making tanks? Unless I'm mistaken, the Iron Tank Gauges check periodically to see if theres a valid multiblock structure around them that can be completed, so if you're using a lot of them in non-tank applications, the repetitively executing check could impact performance.

that`s the reason behind infernal brick existence - it has same look as blast furnace, but doesnt do such checks.

Do iron tank walls do this as well?[DOUBLEPOST=1375189482][/DOUBLEPOST]

Well, as little as it is, centrifuging cracked sand gives saltpeter. I've been getting some by processing sludge. It's not much, but it might be enough for your purposes.

Theres a saltpeter spawner block that converts sand into saltpeter ores - I don't remember exactly how it works, but might be worth looking into?[DOUBLEPOST=1375189615][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, all the Railcraft multiblock structure blocks do (So, Blast Furnace, Coke Oven, Boilers, Steam Oven etc etc). Multiblocks from other mods may also do this too. I believe GT gets around it by only having the single machine block perform the checks instead of all the casings.

RC wiki says it takes 2 hours for it to respawn. For my observations, It seems its 2 Real hours.

Yes, they can. Just craft 8 around any dye.

As for saltpeter, it's supposed to generate everywhere under a few layers of sand on desert biomes.

Caliche is the technical term for the entire deposit of Saltpeter. You'd use it in the same way you'd say a "Vein" of ore.

What I meant was that I didn't find any vein of salt peter underground after mining for a while.

You find it right undernearh the top layer of sand. You won't find it below that. CJ talks all about saltpeter in one of his Dark Tower episodes. He uses a filler to refill the area with sand blocks so the saltpeter can "respawn"? Not sure which episode. Somewhere around eps. 14-16. I think.

It takes 2 RL hours to respawn. I don't feel like chunkloading and waiting that long :S

Strengthened glass due to performance issues with all the checking for a completed structure and also blast resistance as well as transperancy.[DOUBLEPOST=1375576761][/DOUBLEPOST]

Don't be a baby and just centrifuge a crazy amount of cracked sand.
