Silverfish were useful as wither warts from biomes o plenty (which for the record have no use and give you the withering effect when you harvest them) in vanilla minecraft and I just want to know, is there any efficient use to the darned things? And I don't mean an xp farm, silverfish don't provide much more xp than a bat. Not looking for trolling or weapons because any block can be used for that purpose tbh. I mean, come on! Advanced genetics doesnt even have a stinking use for the things! This makes bats more useful than silverfish for once..or prove me wrong? I just want to know if they have any use in the game that would be useful, efficient, or heck, even exploitable. Anythinggg

Apparently a mod adds silver nuggets as silverfish drops, more data would be nice! :)

They occasionally drop silver nuggets, I'm not sure which mod adds that. I'd rather rely on oreberry bushes, though :p

And bats have a use in Witchery -- "wool of bat."

If one has Forbidden Magic, there sure is a use for them. Depends how much you need emeralds, I suppose, though.

I remember back in the day when Etho made a silverfish farm. That shit was uber complicated.

I use Father Toasts Mob Properties mod to give silverfish a chance of dropping an ore dust on death. Makes those annoying sods slightly more useful.

I think I remember, just for EXP, and used Wolves, because it was a full AFK silver fish EXP farm?
That's not the one tho.
It had to do with creating stone, let them go in the stone, move the silverfish stones away and form a big cube :D

That farm with the wolves did kinda work. If you sum it up it's as good as a zombie farm, but probably was not worth the effort because you needed like a maxed beacon for it ...

Only purpose I've found for them is that they are a great source of early game diamond armor for the magic farm modpack.

The maxed beacon isn't that expensive, really. Just need a wither to kill, some obsidian, some glass, and a bunch of ore blocks(iron, gold, etc) to make a beacon run on full power, plus whatever one needs to "Ignite" it. Once one knows how to kill a wither easily, the task goes for "a big goal" to "a means to an end". And they have never been hard even for vanilla players.

Killing a wither is easy. Gathering with skulls is the challenge... If you lack the mods and knowledge

Ah, right, forgot about the skulls being kinda hard unless you have a clue in hell what you're doing. My way of doing it is with Bees. I have a bee that makes fragments, and 6 fragments nets me a skull. One can use crops too, but it's 4 skulls to make the seed(s), and it can be a long drawn out path to that point. Unless you have a watering can. Then it's a few in game days of farming, and however long it'll take to get 4 skulls.

For example: I play a veeery light pack. Gathering iron/gold/diamonds is vanilla speed (maybe a little bit faster). So for me, a maxed beacon would be kinda hard ._.
Ofc wither is easy, just need a decent bow :D

How much gold do you even use, though? A stockpile of blocks of it when I've done some "light mining" is a few stacks.

Well then I guess I'm just super unlucky in every world? haha
Guess that could be the case. But "Light Mining" is until I can't hold any more stuff, and I have a force pack that deletes cobble, dirt, gravel, and flint. And a ore storage pack, because there is no reason to NOT have something like that if you go mining often.

Oh I don't have anything like that. Not even a backpack :D

You can use them to clear out large areas of stone. Splash poison potions will cause all the silverfish to call their friends in the area, so you call them, wait for them to return into stone, and mine one out, and call again
