Im trying to breed some Cobalt bee but I need to have hellish temperature in an alvery. I have been trying to put 17 heat-boxes but even if I have it in desert I only reach Hot (249%) and just missing the last 1% to get to Hellish.

I cant do it in Nether because the other bee im using dont like being there becuase its always nighttime in Nether.

Im using Direwolf20 lastest pack and there are not Extra Bees in it :(

Breed nocturnal and cave dweller into your base stock?
I don't know much about adjusting Alvearies via the blocks because all my base stock are rain tolerant, nocturnal, cave dwellers.

Yes I think I need to do that

You may want to take a look at Gendustry by Bdew. It's a solid mod with stable machines, at least based on my experiences.

While I don't like some aspects of the mod like removing biome-specific mutation (breeding) requirements, the Industrial Apiary is a nice, if not power-hungry, alternative to the Alveary. It also has a much friendlier genetic imprinting mechanism than ExtraBees. I've done way more than my fair share of shuttling to and fro between Synthesizers and Purifiers.

Also, Binnie is back and he's been fixing ExtraBees. It's stable in 1.8.0. When DW20 released his 1.6.4 pack, BinniesMods hadn't been updated in a while and had some world-crashing bugs, so DW20 did the right thing leaving it out of his pack. But, I would not be surprised if he puts BinniesMods (back) in his 1.6.4 pack. DW20 has always been a big fan of bees.

Isnt there a light for the alveary to make nocturnal bees cool with working at night? Maybe that's from extra bees. I wouldnt do bee breeding without it anyways though.

For the whole 'cant bread in the nether' bit try having the bees mate in the nether, then bring them back to the overworld to die off. either that or acclimate them with either a serum or the acclimation station (whatever it is called)

I think that you can breed bees anywhere, and they will mutate according to their environment regardless of whether they can work there or not.
And, iirc, even the hellish pure strains tolerated lower temps.
So you can, in theory, breed the drone and princess in the nether, to produce the queen that can't work there, then bring her back to an overworld desert to reach the next generation?
Not automatable tho...

I believe the biome-specific mutations only can occur WHEN the bee dies. If you breed the bees in the Nether and have the bees die in, say, a Desert, you can not have the bee obtain Nether-specific mutations.

If the bee in Primary says Hellish then its only Nether that will work...

that, right there, is malicious code...

That said, is the cobalt mutation biome specific? I can't find anything suggesting that it is...

The main issue here seems to be that it wants imperial and infernal bees (and a block of cobalt under the hive, but I assume that's less of an issue). Assuming infernal queens require a hellish temperature to operate, breeding the two species together may result in a new princess that needs a hellish biome but no longer has the night time trait (meaning it needs to be in the nether for the temperature, but can't operate in the nether because it's always night there - that is to say, it can't function at all and the princess is effectively lost).

The only solutions seem to be to either wait until Extra Bees hits your server (and/or Gendustry, as the case may be), or cross breed your imperial stock with eg modest bees until you get the traits required for night time operations.

This is probably obvious, but if you choose to go with the breeding route get maximum fertility incorporated into your stock first.

The only requirement I remember for Cobalt Bees is a block of cobalt under them. That's the breeding requirement for most Magic Bees special material bees.

What about a Mystcraft age with one or more of the Nether biomes?
Depends if it's the Biome it's looking for or not. As in, if it is looking for Biomes that occur in the nether, or Dimension -1.
If the bee in Primary says Hellish then its only Nether that will work...
By default, yes, but if you have Gendustry, you can bypass that "little issue" with a upgrade for your Industrial Apiary. Well, maybe, don't know if how the upgrade works, but it's the Nether Simulator Upgrade, and Sweet Jesus is it gonna make my life less painful!

If I had I would not make this thread :) But Im waiting for DW20 to allow Binnies Mod to be a part of the pack.
Or maybe for him to add Gendustry? Seriously, aside from how the Mutator in it works, it's pretty much the Bees Knees as far as Bee Mods go.
May not actually include Knees for Bees, side effects may vary, but include Nausa, Migraines, Upset Stomach, Indigestion, Lack of Common Sense, and Insomnia. If experienced side effects include Heart Attacks, Hallucinations, Homicidal Tendencies and/or Thoughts, Paranoia Induced Tinfoil Hats, Believing Conspiracy Theories, or Death, Consult your Doctor, Psychiatrist, or Mortician for advice on how to cope, as in many cases, these effects tend to not go away after stopping Gendustry. Always consult your local Minecraft Modder's Union before installing a new mod, as they tend to get pissy if we don't at least say we said to tell them first. Do note that they, in fact, are all "Purists" and thus you may disagree with their opinions, which you should remember includes anything not backed by empirical evidence, and pretty much anything they include first person dialog in when it refers to themselves.
