Agrarian Skies Blood Magic Trouble

I've just started on the blood magic quests in Agrarian Skies, and I don't really understand how you're meant to proceed.
To make the level 2 orb you need 30,000 blood, but the basic altar only holds 10,000, and the recipe for the storage increase rune uses the rune I'm trying to make, so it seems like an impossible problem. Am I missing something?

You keep using the knife to keep adding LP to the altar. It consumes it over time rather than all at once.

Okay, I'll try it, but I feel like when I had the gold block in there, the LP count wasn't decreasing or anything to indicate it was absorbing it. There are no red or grey swirls coming off it either, I really don't think it's doing anything.

That's because you're trying to make the T3 orb instead of the T2 orb, which isn't possible for you yet. Try an emerald instead.
