(AE2) Quartz guide

So this post should help people make design choices regarding automation of Certus Quartz processing, as well as all of its derivatives and cousins. This is my attempt to clear the confusion in my head, I hope it will be of help to others too.

This is based on FTB Infinity Evolved 1.7.10 (version file 2.6.0).

There are two things that need to be noted here:

1. There are three types of quartz crystals: Certus, Nether and Fluix.
2. Each of the three types comes in three (four) forms: raw crystal, pure crystal and dust (and block). Certus has a charged variety as well.

All of the forms create a lossless cycle from which any form can be extracted:

1. Four raw forms can be pulverized into four dusts.
2. Four dusts with four sand blocks* create eight seeds.
3. Eight seeds grow into eight pure forms.
4. Eight seeds can be crafted into one block.
5. One block can be crafted onto four raw forms, thus completing the cycle.

*You do lose four sand blocks per cycle, but given the infinity of sand in the modpack, I find it an irrelevant loss.


Certus has a secondary path due to it's charged form:

1. Four raw forms can be charged to four charged forms.
2. Four charged forms can be pulverized into four dusts.

Since Certus ore blocks pulverize into dusts, you could use that as an entry point into the system. I, however, don't know if you can use multiple recipes for the same item or which would take priority if you do (clarification is welcome!).

And this is it from me. If anyone wants they could add a list of recipes that are selective to one of the forms, or are selective to some, but not all forms. Here's a start:

1. You need charged certus to create fluix. It has no other (exclusive) uses.
2. You need pure certus to create a calculation processor.
3. You need pure fluix to create an ME controller (is it "an" (e)ME controller or "a" (e)ME controller?).
4. You cannot use pure certus to craft a grinder.
5. Feel free to add new entries. Data from any mod extensions are welcome (extra cells 2, thaumic energistics, etc).

I hope this data helps someone design their system to be more effective and/or efficient.

(is it "an" (e)ME controller or "a" (e)ME controller?)

an ME. First letter is irrelevant, what matters is how it's pronounced. If the pronunciation starts with a vowel sound, it's "an". And since the ME in this case is an abbreviation, the proper way to pronounce it would be by the letter and not just saying "me"

Note: Not all abbreviations are pronounced by the letter because that would be way too easy and we can't have that in English now can we? I don't believe there's any rules related to this but common sense (if you've spoken/written a lot of English) takes you quite far.

Note2: I ain't studying English, so this information may or may not be correct.
