I have a starter MAC that has served me well, but needs upgrading. The traditional way of upgrading would be to break and re-build a bigger MAC.

However, does AE support multiple MACs ? And, if it does, will crafting jobs with parallel work be optimally scheduled between the multiple MACs ?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I would imagine it'd be more efficient to just add onto your current MAC.

I've seen multiple MACs, though. I just don't think it's any better.

The primary benefit for me would be adding a 2nd MAC in my remote base, thus saving a trip back to my main base just to add a recipe.

You can set up a enderchest that you put the recipe in, which will be auto injected into the MAC. Takes a moment for it to update however(about the time it takes to open up your ae terminal then open up your enderchest again.)

Youve made me curious about your setup... how far apart are you main and remote bases? And how are they linked up via AE? Do you have a very long ME cable between them? Also wondering if you are on mc 1.5 or a 1.6.4 modpack.

Ok, well in older versions of AE you could have multiple MACs on your network and put the recipes in either of them, and they'd just work. Looks like that would still work with the bridge, so going that way or with Wagon's idea seems to be more a matter of style than anything functional.

i set up my MAC's as modular units dedicated to a particular set of tasks, all of them no larger than they need to be for their intended task. they end up looking like weird science experiments, basically a MAC with all kinds of appendages hanging off of it...furnace, compressor, etc. and transfer nodes between the MAC's and the other AE networks to keep them supplied with material.

i try to keep my AE networks as small and efficient as possible, because the larger it gets the slower everything becomes when it has to ping the entire network just to smelt a few stone :)

edit: i guess i read the op wrong, disregard ._.

what also works is putting a fuzzy export bus onto the mac with a filled pattern on it, so that you can just toss the patterns into your ME monitor and wait a moment for them to show up in the mac

So..does having one big, gigantic MAC work better or multiple smaller MACs?

lag aside (i still believe in splitting your ME network up hardcore), i'd say it depends on what you're producing and how much of it you're producing.

for items with large amounts of sub-combines, several smaller MAC's sharing the load of the subcombines are beneficial for the same reason that distributed computing solves large problems fast. but, even then, you'll only see benefits if you intend on mass producing said items.

the only reason we ran our multi-MAC beastmode setup was for mass producing quantum and gravi to arm the mujahideen of our server. and quickly.
