I have been playing FTB for a while and know the basics but i quit for a bit and got back into it. So i started my world and made myself a few solar panels. This wasn't satisfying my EU needs so i checked the crafting recipe for advanced solar panels. When i checked i saw that you need a Irradiant Reinforced Plate which consists of a Sunnarium Part, and a Reinforced IridiumIron Plate. To craft a sunnarium part you need 2 uu mater each... UU matter is very hard to make and needs a mass fabricator and millions of EU per uu matter. The Reinforced Iridium iron plate needs Iridium which is very hard to find and 4 carbon plates and 4 advanced alloys which aren't to hard. I think this is ridiculous and wondered if there was a way to change this crafting recipe to be easier because i know you can make a bunch of things easier in the gregtech config files which i have searched in for something to do with the advanced solar panels. The only reason i would like to make this easier is because i have nearly just started my world and need some easy starting EU. Thanks.

No no no.
This is not GregTech this is Advanced Solar Panels Mod.
Change the recipe (in the config) to easy. I forget exactly what it's called.
Or you could stay with the recipes and I believe, just increase the amount of EU the solars output

Edit: Could a moderator change title to be less...annoying?

The "AdvancedSolarPanel.cfg" has an option all of the way at the bottom. Make it say this:

B:"Enable simple Advanced Solar Panel recipe"=true

Still a bit expensive, but much cheaper overall.
While I don't want to start a flame war here, I would disagree.
If memory serves me correct here it is 3 reinforced glass, 2 advanced circuits, a basic solar, 2 advanced alloys, and an advanced machine block.
For free energy that's pretty cheap. If these required maintenance then yes that probably would be expensive but really most of that stuff is iron, copper, and tin...

I'd love to see this not become a thread about how people who use "free power" are lacking... down there.

You can wait for the next update to ASP, the author decided to give us a config file after the backlash from his little boo-boo he made in this version.

Wait for an update?
Which version by default is in the pack?
Anyways, I updated mine on my own...

I should give GT another go, I tried it and the only thing I really hate is the bronze nerf, everything else is cool.
Yes you should :p
I'm not going to rant about why I love it, you can look at a thousand other posts on this forum about why I do, but yes it does add things besides nerfs of pre-existing items.

I believe it's the version that he made the boo-boo on, when he decided that the best way to nerf something is make nobody use it ever, rather than tone down the power.
The next version after that it was fixed I think. Which will likely be in the next version.

Ok...
Now I understand.
The version he made the boo-boo in was 3.3.3
He's currently on 3.3.5 (1.5.1) and 3.3.4 was the version in which he released solar hats and a config
now we're on the same page I just forgot that by default 3.3.4 isn't included :p

sucks tho. Was really looking forward to the solar hats especially because we don't have Compact Solars. But compact solar hats were cool because they messed with yo head. :3

I'm of the opinion that Advanced Solar Panels were right where they needed to be prior to requiring UU matter.

Now they've been nerfed into uselessness. If I have an energy source capable of making UU matter, I am well beyond what Advanced Solar Panels (the block, not the mod) can provide me in terms of energy. 8 eu/t is weak.

Like I said I believe there's an output config

Yeah, but the problem for me isn't the output. I think the output is good, as it provided a mid-tier, reliable power source before the recipe changed.

Then they instantly bumped it into the category of shitty high-tier block by adding UU-matter to the recipe.

By the time I have UU matter, I'm in a position to jump straight to hybrid panels. The output on the advanced panels doesn't matter at all. Now they're just a material block.

I would have to agree before the change at least last time i played they where a good mid-level provider with 3 pieces or irradiant glass which is somewhat hard and a few other things. I didn't think they were to easy or to hard to craft at that point.

Not at all. Before the nerf, the materials required scaled nicely with the amount of free energy they gave.

Honestly, I would have even been okay with them nerfing the energy output to like, 6, if they thought 8 was too much. That would have been better than what they did. At least then it would still be a mid-tier block.

I saw this option before in the Advanced Solar panels config but mine looked like this
B:"Enable hard recipes"=false
I changed it so it says false and the only thing it changed was the irradiant glass (which wasn't really the hard part) i believe it was to reinforced glass but it kept the Irradiant Reinforced Plate which is what takes all the UU matter and Iridium.
BTW im on the Ultimate pack.[DOUBLEPOST=1365920705][/DOUBLEPOST]

What do you mean not at all? :p I was agreeing with you?

I just think that making a recipe hard and keeping an output low compared to it is a lazy decision.. Which is why I use CompactSolars.

Oh. That was mainly directed at like, the last sentence of the bit I was quoting.

And yes. It was extremely lazy. And weird. Why would you make your own mod less appealing to the people using it? That's the only thing they accomplished with this.

If you're looking for some easy starting EU, then you should be looking at things like generators and geothermal generators. Advanced solar panels are end game content, and cost more energy to produce than they'll generate in the first few days they're active. That doesn't even account for the cost in uranium that the higher tier panels demand. Advanced solars are really only useful as magic free energy blocks for crazy end-game builds.
