advanced insertion pipes

I'm watching the "bee university" tutorial on youtube and Florastar is using something called advanced insertion pipes.

They aren't available in FTB (that I can find).

Is there something with equivalent functionality I can use?

Buildcraft pipes have become a bit smarter as of late and don't send items in a direction of a full inventory.
However if the inventory is empty there is still a 50% chance (if we are talking about a T-junction: 1 input, 2 outputs with the same chance of being chosen) that it will continue past the inventory. In comparison the insertion pipe will always try to insert into an adjacent inventory before choosing another output.
If you do want the capabilities of the insertion pipe you'll find it in the mod Additional Buildcraft Objects.

You'll want the version named 0.9.3.52 which I believe is the latest version for Minecraft 1.4.2.
