Adding More Mods To FTB?

I watched Direwolf20's mod spotlight on Ars Magica, and I decided I wanted to get it. I wanted it on FTB, of course, and Ultimate pack to be exact. But if I try to add the WinRAR Archive or whatever it's called to the ftb mods folder, if I try to start up FTB Ultimate, it goes through the FML is setting up your minecraft environment, through the CMojang intro, and then it gives me a black screen for forever. so basically what I'm asking here is, if someone could give me a step by step guide to installing mods for an ftb server and singleplayer worlds, then I would love that. By the way, I am no good at installing a mod for vanilla either, so try not to say "like you would do in vanilla" a lot, cause I probably won't understand that.

Unfortunately, Ars magica is 1.5.1 material. Make your own modpack 1.5 ;-)

Hopefully it is an ID conflict. If you see in the error log something like 'java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Slot xxx is already occupied by xxx' Look here from post 4 - 7 in this thread for info on how to change them.

Not sure about servers exactly, but it should be a similar setup.
