While making changes to my account profile, I would sometimes see "Please enter a value that matches the required format."

How the heck am I supposed to do that if it doesn't tell me anywhere what said format is?

To be fair, you did have the general idea right in that's how domains are structured. Just not the names of the structure pieces.
