Been trying to find a server where I can experiment more with mystcraft and eventually record a video, but so far haven't found one with it enabled for use, the few that do have it are donator only. So I figured I would just ask it here, if this is the wrong section sorry.

Have a look at the server promotion sub-forum. There are hundreds of servers available, just apply to a bunch of them and i'me sure you'll get accepted in at least one.

You'll probably want to look in the DW20 subforum, as that pack has mystcraft. There are also some servers hosting the ultimate pack, you'll have to search a bit to find them though.

You don't. Mystcraft got changed pretty radically and one of the changes reworked how you learn symbols. Instead of learning them from randomly joining new worlds, you have to trade for them with villages or find them in dungeons. You can no longer learn symbols from descriptive books.

You don't lose it, you can keep it and just copy it into your notebook/descriptive book.

You can copy the pages in the writing desk, but if you did put your only copy into a descriptive book then yes it's lost and you need to find a new one.
