30 min startup time and not able to play

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Title 30 min startup time and not able to play

Launcher Type Curse App

Modpack Infinity Evolved

Modpack version 2.6.0

Have you modified the pack? No

Link to log file http://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/1491fe03

Details of the issue PC Specs: Laptop
Win 10 Pro 64bit Version 1607
i7-3610
4GB RAM
GTX 660M
Java 1.8.0_101 64bit

Everything worked fine, loadtime was about 5 min, laptop usable during load. Thursday night my girlfriend used my laptop, she said she only watched some youtube and surfed on facebook.
After that night the 30 min load started and I am not able to play. The few times I did get a connect to the server I saw the welcome chat messages and a short render of the game and it goes back to the "dirt" screen after and stays not responding.

Tried several reinstalls with complete delets of all FTB and curse folders in User and appdata. Tried reinstall java, tried changing the java executable. The java executable speeded the starting a bit but still same conection problem and not able to play singleplayer due to massive lag ([14:26:43] [Server thread/INFO] [FastCraft/]: The server is lagging 309703 ms behind, 5194 ticks will be skipped.)
Also tried using the normal FTB launcher with fresh install, same thing.
During the game load my laptop si nearly unusable. Everything is not responding/taking ages to load, even taskmanager. Tried asigning everything from 2-4GB ram.

I have no clue what else to try and realy need help. I am starting minecraft again to get a new log for you with just a Multiplayer server Connection try now. Hope someone can help me.

with best regards

Configure MC to use nvidia. Currently it's using intel and their drivers are not good for MC.

That is the log after I changed the 3D Settings. Sadly my BIOS prevents me from forcing the Nvidia chip. Just can force the intel one, but I changed it in 3D Settings to always use Nvidia. Loading was still the same, lagged out system and a hold here and there 20min load time. Game lagged, too. Tried to connect, "dirt" screen 15min with not responding and some periods with 100% CPU then short Login in followed by Timed out.
Did a clean driver update now and trying it again.
After that I will try older Java versions.

Along with just your Minecraft, check for any malicious or seedy looking programs with no verified (Or a known dangerous) publisher, this so called "Girlfriend" may have installed any kind of software without you knowing. Always be on the safe side :)

Step 1; Open the Cortana or search bar in the bottom left corner of your screen
Step 2; type "uninstall a program" or "change and remove programs"
Step 3; scan the list for dangerous or strange extensions.
step 4; google search the application, you don't want to delete anything important
Step 5; uninstall or delete the ones you think are dangerous. Make sure you KNOW that its bad, rather then assuming.

if you have access to a different PC it might be easier to get a antivirus and go over it with that. would recommend one that runs off a disk or USB stick, if either will work in your setup. I thought I had a bookmark to a antivirus testing site. having troubles figuring out where it is though. Not going to recommend any as I never found a good one. They all want to tell me how well they are doing at protecting me. They just can't shut up and sit there, actually doing the protecting.

Most free antivirus software usually ends up doing more harm then good, and can be almost impossible to remove after.
If you are considering paying for an Anti-Virus software, AVG protection is a very good option (although costly), it does a pretty good job of keeping your computer relatively in tact. More then can be said for others *cough cough Norton and McAfee cough cough*

Did check the programms and tasks already. She didn't install something and nothing strange is showing inside TaskManager. It looks more like an Displaydriver or Java problem. Rest of the system and games are working fine. Just java related stuff is strange.
Have 2 not yet published posts where I said "Clean driver update did kind of work. Startup feels better time and performance wise, but still long "dirt"screen and a laggy game start. Normalized after a few mins and is playable. Any suggestions how I can better the Server login?" Same session terminated about 20 min later with a remote host focibly closed and then client not responding. Think I will try a few different Java versions now.

Edit: Curse told me I didnt have Java installed when I want to change the java version, so I reinstalled the latest and reloaded, now it got it. I think that this is a proof something is wrong with my Java. Maybe an auto update failed or something got corrupted. How can I do a completely clean java install,eg get rid of everything? Tried using apps deinstall already.

Its best to ensure you arnt getting high packet loss, check with resource monitor what is using your network, and what % packets you are losing and then report back.

programs and features in the windows control panel has all the javas listed in their. just select them and uninstall them. Download the current 63bit java installer and install from it.

Curse doesn't always see that java is there. I tend to wait a little bit after getting to that portion of the options screen. it is still a little buggy too. so best option is to select the version you actually want it to use. (should specify this is in the curse options on the minecraft portion of them)

Did do all of that. No Paket loss no other Java installed, new java installed and no viruses. Did have a good playsession now but got a discon at the end and the menu didnt load. Programm not responding and I closed it. Everything seems to work now exept the Mainscreen that is lagging and causing client freezes.

Wish I could make heads or tales of those things. I like reading them though.

Such as this crash that didn't crash one:
looks like it isn't really a issue though.

[11:29:31] [Client thread/INFO] [FTBLib/]: Current Mode: normal
all she was doing was surfing the net and using facebook. I take she knows how to do that and keep your computer safe. So that might not be what started all this. What are your current laptop specs? Especially how much drive space do you have left? The other options is to select properties for you drives and scan them for errors. A memory check might be worth it. No chance this setup is overheating? You clean the vents and stuff regularly? (forgot that with my fridge. This used one I got now really sucks. Wish I had known to do that with the original one).

I'm really having trouble finding any issue in the logs. I don't really want to lay blame on someone you trust. Especially as there is no indication that such a blame even exists. Wondering if that part was coincidental or the end of a mountain of stuff that had been building up on your PC.

Mind you I'm just guessing out of my ass on everything I say for trying, ever. It is the way I troubleshoot my own stuff actually. I can keep doing that, I really wish someone would come a long that new some real trouble shooting stuff though.

edit:
found the specs:
Code:
-- System Details --
Details:
   Minecraft Version: 1.7.10
   Operating System: Windows 10 (amd64) version 10.0
   Java Version: 1.8.0_101, Oracle Corporation

   Memory: 486105360 bytes (463 MB) / 596115456 bytes (568 MB) up to 2863661056 bytes (2731 MB)
   JVM Flags: 4 total; -XX:HeapDumpPath=MojangTricksIntelDriversForPerformance_javaw.exe_minecraft.exe.heapdump -Xmx3072m -Xms256m -XX:PermSize=256m
AABB Pool Size: 0 (0 bytes; 0 MB) allocated, 0 (0 bytes; 0 MB) used
   IntCache: cache: 0, tcache: 0, allocated: 0, tallocated: 0
   FML:
GL info: ' Vendor: 'NVIDIA Corporation' Version: '4.5.0 NVIDIA 372.70' Renderer: 'GeForce GTX 660M/PCIe/SSE2'

Edit:
Was forgetting. Running windows disk cleaner works much better if it is run as admin. I have mine pinned to the start menu the admin part is under the more section of the right click menu. deleting all but the most recent restore point with it might help too. if it is drive space issue.

Will check drivespace when I am home again, but doubt it. Got no info from my Windows. I think my girlfriend using it was just a coincidence. It seems I troubleshoot more or less like you ;-)
I am at home tomorrow and can play at my Desktop PC. Think I will Save everything and just do a clean install. That should solve the problem.
Laptop isn't hot and specs are inside first post.

Thanks for your help so far, all of you.

You sound like you know some of what you are doing. Just in case though, make certain you can actually do a clean install of windows. before doing one. Heard that can be a problem with laptops. Mostly it is getting the drivers back on there.

At least most of the time, haha. I will double check I have all laptop related drivers I need on the normal drive, but shouldn't be a huge Problem, I bought it without an OS. And it is a migrated win7 pro install, so a clean win10 install was long overdue. Just curious if the hardware activation will work like it should or maybe I just create another Microsoft account to be Save.

if the install is tied to the microsoft account it should work fine. I've formatted my computers repeatedly, The only issue I ever ran into was when the windows 10 version I installed wasn't the current fully up to date one. It wasn't activating at all. Wasn't even able to create a install USB of the newest version using the media creation tool, until windows was fully up to date and current and activated. Never had to put in a key. Just skip that every time it asks. Log in to your microsoft account as soon as you feel comfortable with it and it will take care of the rest(if the current activation says digital license or something on the settings, activation screen.

At least most the time is better then I manage. I usually just have enough of a clue to make it worse. I try to be much more conservative with my troubleshooting when helping others.
