100 fps in vanilla?
sounds quite low imo, i hit 200-250, and i play between 60-90 in dw20, so 100 fps wouldn't leave much power in ftb
Yeah, I got nothing. Only thing I have left to suggest is to make absolutely sure you're running Java 7 45, updated vid card drivers, and have the latest version of the pack. Maybe try to install FTB in a completely different location. Maybe a different drive even if possible.

Desktop computer with one graphics card and no integrated graphics. Something interesting that I saw is that when I press the escape key to bring up the Minecraft menu the FPS does a massive jump but when I leave the menu the fps goes back down.[DOUBLEPOST=1388438590][/DOUBLEPOST]I have two drives and I tried installing FTB on both.

Does it have that same exact behavior when you run it on a server? The reason I ask is in SSP the game pauses when in the menu, in SMP, it doesn't.

I've seen many reports where ATI cards fail to pick up MineCraft as something to accelerate due to its use of OpenGL, but best I can make out that should only apply if you've got some other graphics card for it to run with. Though I guess it does indeed sound like it's using software rendering.

Probably a silly suggestion, but does the Advanced OpenGL toggle in Minecraft's own settings make any difference?

You could try assign the FTB launcher to use your graphics card. I have no idea how to do that with ATI but apparently you can do this on an Nvidia card with the Nvidia control panel- so ya... some probably not helpful links (go to step 9- this is for a specific program but should give you an idea)

If you are truely desperate you could try to use the vanilla minecraft launcher and see if that helps. It seemed to help others a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be helping me with Resonant Rise from the AT launcher.

1)download and install forge.
2)Go into your minecraft folder (appdata->roaming->.minecraft) and create a folder with your choice of name.
3)Move all the contents of the minecraft folder inside the direwolf20 install folder thingie(where the pack is installed on your computer it should have a whole bunch of folders n stuff)
4)run the minecraft launcher and create a new profile with the forge version (in the dropdown next to use version - it should say release 1.6.4 forge lotsofnumbers)
5)save and run minecraft with your forge profile - not sure if you still have to do this but it can't hurt
6)quit and open the launcher again. edit the profile you had made. Check the box next to game directory and change it to your new folder from step 3. add in at least the -Xms -Xmx JVM arguments from the recommended arguments thread
7) save and launch minecraft. Hope that stuff is fixed.
8) Don't sue me if I have destroyed you machine.

I max at 40 in vanilla, and still get about 10-20 frames in modded minecraft.. So something is seriously wrong with this guys set-up

Perhaps try force updating the pack to re-download everything, something may have gone wrong in the install and slip under the radar, making you load corrupted mods (Happened to me before)

I do not believe that there is a problem with the modpacks, the launcher, or Minecraft. I believe the problem is with my system but I am not sure with what. I am considering an full reset of my operating system and all of my hardware.

Listen to Hiro, My wifes laptop was getting between 15 and 20 fps on her laptop and I followed the directions in my sig and what Hiro stated and now she gets over 100+ fps..

Try setting java to run on you videocard and not onboard... It should help.

It could be an issue with my graphics card because it idles whenever I play Minecraft, but as far as I can work out there is no way to force it to run in the AMD Catalyst.

Best I could find is this rather simplistic explanation.

As for having onboard or not, from what I have read it doesn't sound like it matters if an integrated chip exists. Minecraft and/or the launcher need to be recognized by the video card for it to pull out the bells and whistles. and from some comments from dinnerbone the new minecraft launcher had at some point been removed from the default. The comment was back in June but it could still be applicable, at least for FTB.

here's a weird suggestion from me... instead of loading the modpack through the FTB launcher, try loading it through the vanilla launcher.
for some reason if I load a modpackk in the FTB launcher, or ATlauncher or MultiMC with minecraft 1.6 I get very bad FPS, but if I load the modpack through the vanilla launcher, I get full fps...

Im sorry, but that makes no sense!
You cant run MC on non-existing onboard video chip in any way, think before replying...

Seems real legit, really click the link in my sig..

It helps alot of people out..

a quote from there.

As far as I know none of the FX line CPUs have integrated graphics. I know mine doesn't for sure. It sure does feel like i'm running on Intel HD 4000 though.

I figured that before when i was running on my current specs my fps was around 30-40 max with optifine, but after i messed around with my Nvidia control panel and told it to use my GPU when im running java my fps went up to 60 even with so much stuff i have in my base. It looks like ftb by defalt runs on your intergrated/whatever bad graphics card, and you need to change that by hand.

Her pc has a Nvidia 680, graphics card but reads an intel HD 4000 onboard card.. Interesting....... interesting indeed...

Your wifes laptop HAS integrated chip (every Intel based one have one on chipset), so there is nothing special there. Of course you need to tell programs to use the NVIDIA one if needed, cause not all know how to request it from OS (like Minecraft).

So after trying everyone's suggestions, I have still not been able to figure out the problem. I tried other modpacks, such as TechWorld 2, and I set up a modpack in the Vanilla Minecraft Launcher but it made no difference with my frame rate. At this point I believe the problem may lie with either my CPU, GPU, or Java. I decided to pastebin my FTB Console Log in debug mode http://pastebin.com/s0iYKvP3 to see if anyone can figure this out. The console log is from me launching the FTB Launcher to loading the DireWolf20 Modpack to creating a brand new world. If anyone can determine what the problem is and has a suggestion I will appreciate it very much. Thanks for all the help so far.

You mentioned that the frame rate is much improved in vanilla - but what happens to your graphics card usage? Does that go up, or is it just able to pull 100FPS with software rendering?

Do other OpenGL game have this problem for you?
