I would believe so, if you began the carts so that they're on opposite sides of the track you shouldn't have a problem

Random chance may make it so that one catches up to the other, but the only way that you could find this out is to try it I think

From experience I can say that the only way to keep them apart is to actively keep them apart. This is much harder than to lay two different tracks as its a process that requires you to use advanced detection rails and stuffs. I've tried minecarts between them, linked with railcraft and otherwise and they keep going silly.

As for the randomness equalizing after long enough distances,,, I could probably figure out the chances of the random chances for each section of track being equal but,,, Its statistically unlikely for them to be equal. This leads to one cart taking longer time than the other thus eventually they will collide.

I don't know if that thread title was intentional or not but had a good laugh. :p

At the topic I think two woodcutter on one track aren't that efficient and it's easy to make 2 separated tracks, you can even use the same cargo manager.

Easiest way to keep them apart is to have cart detectors with track gates at each end of hot track. Connect those with an and/or circuit so neither cart can pass the gates until both of them are on the detectors. If you lay your track correctly you can have them basically stop 1 block away from each other and put a manager in between them also attached to the and/or circuit so that they have to be there and managed befor either can move again.
