Open 2.5.2: Veinminer bug with compressed blocks

What is the bug:
Veinminer works when smashing cobble into gravel and gravel into sand etc. with a regular hammer but it doesn't work with compressed hammers and compressed blocks

Developer said it's too "overpowered" which makes no sense in my opinion. The whole point of veinminer is to remove the tedium of smashing blocks constantly and it drains your food/durability appropriately so I don't see the issue, just make compressed blocks cost 9x the hunger/dura.
