I'm not asking for anything, I'm just wondering if any mod author is that fast to already have a mod ready for 1.7...? I doubt that tho, the only thing we might have is an emerald tools mod :D

To have a mod ready for 1.7 we first need MCP completed for 1.7, then FML/Forge for 1.7, THEN mods.

Not necessarily, there were mods before Forge, and there are mods that still don't use Forge.

Eekysam (creator of Christmas Festivities) didn't use Forge until he updated to 1.6, after I asked him about it like 2 months ago.

If you want mods that work well with other mods and have compatibility Forge and FML is about the only way to go. So there are a FEW mods out for 1.7 but until Forge and FML are working and finished you won't see alot of mods

Also keep in mind that Forge does the way it does things because Mojang politely mentioned that they don't like mods that do base class modifications and that it's technically a direct violation of the EULA/ToS. Now, Mojang doesn't actually take any action on this, even with mods like BtW which are fairly hostile towards Mojang. But LexManos decided to go the extra mile in 1.6 to completely remove all existing base class modification from Forge itself, as well as support or need for them for Forge-based mods.

It's a bit more convoluted now to do certain things, since instead of modifying files you have to intercept/replace code at runtime (one of the reasons Forge modded clients start so much slower). But on the upside we got the incredibly convenient new Forge installer that interfaces seamlessly with Mojang's new 1.6+ launcher, as well as the reassuring knowledge that Forge and all the mods based on it are completely compliant with Minecraft's license and terms of use.

No other mod API or modloader than Forge and FML offer you this. And that is the reason it needs the updated Minecraft Coder Pack up and running before Forge itself can even think about updating. Without MCP loaded alongside, you can't do this kind of runtime modding.

first things first MCP is up on alpha phase for 1.7 but its in ALPHA mind you people there is a chance its not a fully fixed dev code so wait till xmas that was last reported when the MCP crew will churn out MCP final as for that enjoy your mods while hey last because if 1.8 will be another huge rewrite on minecraft it will be once again a long long long wait

Yeah you can still decompile the game with the tools that the previous MCP versions use, and if you're familiar with parts of the code then it's possible to identify some of the files/classes/methods/etc despite the obfuscation. I doubt you'll see any mods done that way which go beyond the complexity of what Immibis did, but kudos to him and the other handful of folks who went to the trouble.

You might see some mods pop up after MCP goes up but before Forge is finished, but I don't think most users are interested in fooling with JAR mods anymore, especially in the new launcher. Forge is already being worked on thanks to the alpha release of MCP, so this may give them enough time to figure out this new networking code and everything to make their release shortly after MCP anyway.

I've played around in the alpha MCP, modifying the TNT to blow up entire villages and junk like that, and seeing what kinds of things might look different which I'd have to account for when porting mods over. But like with most other folks, I'll be waiting for Forge to make anything worthwhile.

Mojang, torturing the mod developers since Minecraft 1.3
not that it's a bad thing that Mojang still does alot of updating for minecraft, it's just that I start to feel really sorry for the mod developers for the insane amount of work they constantly need to do to update their mods, and just when things get stable Mojang releases another new version which requires even more work

It gets worse before it gets better. All these Minecraft updates are making things easier for modders in the long run; it just takes a while to get there. All these updates are preparing the way for the Minecraft API, which will hopefully allow Minecraft to be updated without mods also needing to update.

Honestly, I think having to stick to 1.6 for a while could be good for the modded Minecraft community. If development just goes towards 1.6 mods, packs can last a lot longer without people growing restless about missing out on the latest and greatest. It doesn't seem like many of Vanilla 1.7's features are interesting to the modded community anyway, although I will say that Amplified terrain gen looks amazing. Still, I'd much rather have updated mods all on one version.

Also, Dinnerbone did an AskMeAnything on /r/Minecraft earlier and said 1.8 will have features of interest to two distinct groups, and it seems like a lot of people were hoping that meant the modding API. We'll see though.

Based on recent history, I'd bet something like April before we're looking at a robust mod set for 1.7. By that I mean enough mods to have a pack similar to what we've become used to with FTB. This is, of course, what we call a W.A.G.

since 1.7 is worse than 1.3 was and 1.3 never had a modpack/1.2 had great ones, the 1.6 packs are here to stay for a long time.
