I'm pretty sure it's caused by the meteor shield, but I don't know how to remove it and why did it cause it (we have had it for a long time and nothing happened).
Thanks for your time :)
There's a meteor shield somewhere in your world that's got messed up NBT data. I recommend downloading the world, and going in with MCEdit and getting rid of that block.

It solved the crash but now other objects with NBT data from the area (like pipes, XP containers, lava drums, energy banks, and a couple of machines from Ender IO) aren't displaying correctly and they are all empty (they weren't, of course). Things with NBT data from Minecraft (chests, furnaces, etc.) are displaying OK but everything they contained that isn't from Minecraft got erased. Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks for helping me, I really appreciate it :)

Hi. I removed the meteor mod for now to fix your glitch, and updated some other things for bugfixes. You shouldn't get any NBT problems anymore. Hope your world is OK.

Update 2.7.6 is out!

I wanted to give this pack a try, because the nevermine mod seems interesting, but so far, I could not find it any fun at all.

I tried to generate multiple worlds, and in every single one of them, I got crushed by mobs in the starting area, broad daylight.
In most worlds, the killers spawned above ground despite the official wiki saying they are underground mobs, and twice by above ground mobs (a swarm of bushes and a few trees).

All in all, in most worlds, I couldn't even manage to chop a single tree before dying.

I went in creative to test a few things, and it appears that the mobs spawn even in a fully lit base, even inside the small building I made for a bed.

So I decided to come here to ask:
Am I missing something obvious, or is it supposed to be impossible to even get your first piece of cobblestone before dying 10 times over?

EDIT: Bah, 2 days, StarV logged in between, and not a sign of answer?
Well, that's yet an other pack without the slightest bit of support, I'm not going to bother spending too much time trying to survive the first minutes when I don't even have an answer as for whether or not it's intended.
Too bad, I really wanted to see what a pack built around Nevermine could look like.

Jeez, these modpacks are made in people's spare time give the person a break. Responses like this will make them stop developing the pack at all.

Around this time are lots of graduations and such, maybe they are busy with that or even just regular life, they don't owe you an explanation or an update. You may be able go in the configs to adjust some things if needed?

It's a fun modpack and I would hate for StarV to become discouraged.

The spawn behavior you noted is the result of the mod author of AoA (Nevermine), XolovA, not StarV, the modpack creator.

With AoA, use half slabs to stop spawning. Avoid building bases in Taiga (an AoA mob, the Skolle, will teleport a distance through walls/ceilings). If you build underground, half slabs or glass on spaces you do not want spawns on, and expect mobs to spawn in caves you have lit up. Avoid oceans, and if you must travel on them, keep moving at all times, Pinchers will kill you quite easily and there is nothing you can do about them for a great while.

Twisted Realms also has Project Zulu, which has its own mobs (and perhaps its own spawn rules).

There is an official FTB modpack built around Nevermine now (Departed), so there will be more AoA specific info in those threads. Departed does not have a great deal of the mods TR has, however, and will soon have an update that nerfs some of the ExtraTic metals.

Frankly, StarV updates this modpack far more frequently than others do theirs.

Thank you everyone for the standing up for the pack, there is an update soon (most likely today or tomorrow) that fixes a lot of bugs, including the Extra TiC one (If you are talking about the skeletal tools and etc.) There is also a surprise when you load the modpack next after the update. :)

Also to note, server owners can download the server files before release on the first page of this thread, as I update the info (and server link for next update) before it is actually sent out. I find it to be easier, so server owners don't have to download the modpack's server files while the users are waiting, they already have the files ready to go right when the update is out.

Also, sorry about no response (slay_mithos.) I had things going on with graduation and etc. I will try to respond faster next time.

Also, I want some user contribution: would you like Project E and/or Aether II to be added to the modpack?

If I had to chose one over the other, Aether II would be it. I am pretty ambivalent about either one (plenty of content as there is), but Aether II would be the best fit, IMO.

Thanks. I will most likely add it in the next update. Project E is cool, but I feel the DM, and RM armor and tools, as well as the Gem armor (definitely) are a bit too overpowered. :/

I'd go with Aether II as well, both would be amazing but probably too much work but I love ProjectE. I do understand the OP of some of it's content but it's such a good mod.

@Gamingjg:
I am not criticizing StarV for the problems I experienced.
I am just a player that picked up a pack that was made public, and sounded fun, but uppon having said problems, I came to the "official" thread in search for an answer.

Not getting any for days when trying to enjoy the pack is a bit frustrating, and when the answers finally comes and basically can be shortened as "it's intended, get good, don't dare complain", it just doesn't help StarV either, because it looses potential players, and the feedback that would come from them.

Oh well, I guess it's my bad for thinking that people would be proud of what they publish like this, and that the community was helpful.
Still too bad, because with the right advices and tips, I am sure that there is a lot to enjoy in the pack.

I wonder If you realize that people have actual lives going on... StarV just said that he was dealing with graduation stuff and most people have been dealing with end of school stuff for the past few weeks so stop complaining dude. This is a hobby, not a job. Be patient, learn the mechanics, build your own strategies. Don't demand to be carried through this by the pack maker because you don't know the mechanics or how the mods work. In my opinion, taking this for granted is a product of overuse of HQM but whatever I guess. Try to be a little self-sufficient.

@slay_mithos,

I will assume you genuinely want help.

Frankly, this pack is quite easy as compared to other packs. Like many similar packs, it punishes you for not paying attention and not prioritizing properly. I learned it just fine by searching out the info on the internet, and by observing how things work. I play hardcore worlds only, and have only died when I took a risk while knowing the consequences for failure and failed to take the proper precautions.

I have not seen one AoA underground mob spawning above ground (I have seen them spawn above the levels stated in the wiki, but that is an issue with whoeve edited that AoA wiki entry).

Here are some rules of thumb when playing this pack:

1. If its not a vanilla mob, assume its hostile.

2. Get some wood. If a non vanilla mob is in the way of that, move on. Use the radar (go into the minimap settings and change the settings to show the hostile and potentially hostile mobs). You cannot just blunder around.

3. Be aware of vanilla spawn mechanics, especially above ground in open areas. If you sit still, you will most likely be completely safe as long as you have nothing currently in aggro range. If something is in your way, using spawn mechanics to advantage will remove the most fearsome monster without combat.

4. With a knowledge of spawn mechanics and a suitable ranged weapon (a Tinkers crossbow excels at this), the only thing you have to worry about above ground is not aggroing mobs that you cannot kill or even hurt until you achieve a certain skill rank (look up the hunter skill on the AoA wiki). These are one mob in a Taiga that you have to aggro yourself, amphibytes that spawn from the prismarine structures in the ocean and the coastal areas, and Pinchers that spawn in the ocean. Everything else will be easily slaughtered while outside of their aggro range as long as you maintain situational awareness of your surroundings. There are some AoA mobs that spawn during the periodic events that have expanded aggro ranges, however, including a ghast like mob that will snipe you from long distances. Easy to avoid by not going out at night during such events.

5. In the beginning, i would suggest grabbing enough wood for some boats and spending time in the ocean if possible, even before you make a pick or anything else. Stay moving constantly. You have hunger overhaul in this pack, but i do not think its configed to have your hunger go down passively, but while in your boat i would scan out some easy harvest craft food (fruit juice is your best bang for the buck, probably). Grab enough for a tinker smeltry ( you do not have to have a stack or each material to get started, but usually easy to get), make and fire a clay bucket ot two and fill them with water, grab some harvestcraft cotton, then find a spot you want to set up in and dig into a hill/go underground. Avoid taigas, half slab everything, and make a farm and smeltry. Hunger overhaul is set to its default growth time configs, so it will be slow to establish your farm, but its also configed to allow underground farming.

6. Once you get the food situation handled, mine up enough materials to get some iron armor or equivalent, and a tinkers crossbow. Get some jade below y19 or AoA saphirre below y9, make your bolts out of that. Remember to half slab everything! Try to stay away from caves, there is a rare AoA mob that spawns that sets tnt off all the time; again, be aware of spawn distances and position yourself accordingly.

I could say a bunch more, but really, every pack like this is pretty easy as long as you are willing to be cautious and patient. The only real exception to that is MF and BnB (especially BnB) as they deliberately minimize decsison loop intervals.

Sorry if my reply seemed harsh, I wasn't trying to be I was just rying to explain why people may go AWOL around this time. Nolaw70 gave some very good tips, I would suggest starting there.

A good start is to look for a farlander hut and go to it, I happened upon one while running from mobs and never had anything spawn in it besides the farlanders(maybe AoA mobs don't spawn on the nether brick floor?). Anyway, you can replace the floor with slabs to be safe and now you have a safe haven from which to dig into the earth. However, keep in mind the hunger overhaul, you must get a food source start right away. I hadn't thought of boating around to find food first, you can do that and maybe you will find a farlander hut during that.

My main mistake was that I didn't know about the Taiga biome, do not settle there, I had to to start another game(HC) because of that. I played in a regular game for a while after that to get things figured out then started a HC one again.

This pack is pretty fun, I hope you give it another chance.

Very nice tips, it's appreciated by myself and most likely anyone that reads it.
