1.7.10 Servers only connect on local host?

Details of the issue:
I created a server for Agrarian skies that I play with my family and it works like a charm, but now we would like to try a new modpack. I tried running servers for Pathfinder, Hubris, and Infinity but all 3 servers will only allow me to connect using local host on the same computer as the server is running on. It appears that there is something I am doing incorrectly when setting up the minecraft 1.7.10 server that maybe I didn't need to do in 1.6.4? If anyone could give me advice on what to try looking at it would really help, been working on this for a couple days now.​
