What is it?
Minecraft: Augmented, to quote the in-launcher description, is "a kitchen-sink pack that includes as many awesome mods as we could cram into it without frame death! Augmented truly 'augments' Minecraft's already amazing capabilities and bring your freedom to a whole new level. Automate everything possible in conventional or crazy ways, or delve into the magic of Thaumcraft, Botania, or Blood Magic and become an all-powerful wizard. If you really want, you can combine every single mod in the pack and make the most awesome world ever!

In Augmented, the only limit to your creativity is your mind, and your mind alone."

From first looking at the pack, I didn't like it because it didn't have HQM, I then remembered that this is Minecraft so I decided to create the most efficient system from every mod in the pack, using only beginning game tools. When the pack finally finished installing I was overcome with the amount of mods there were. Better get started.
So far the pack is cool with plenty of stuff and new mods to me. I should have fun with it and hopefully you will too :).

My friend and I wanted to make the modpack more tech-and-experimentation-oriented rather than to be quest-oriented. Naturally, we left HQM out.
I do hope the modpack can still live up to your expectations, though; do tell how it works out! ;)

Holy guacamole, I really need to go to bed earlier

A new update has been released for the pack, it has now been updated to version 2.0.1:
Tons of new mods, including Ars Magica 2, Metallurgy, Witchery, Aura Cascade, Quantum Flux, Practicalities, Roguelike Dungeons, Enhanced Portals 3, and more.
Reika's mods, AppleCore, CustomNPCs/CustomNPCs Tweaks, Hunger Overhaul and the Spice of Life have been removed.

So what specs are reccomended to play this mod pack? And if you could, would you be able to post some guides to new players in a handy in-game guide book or in another thread? I'm not that good with automation actually.

With the new update, there are a good amount of new mods that are going to be added (2.0.2, which should be out any time now) and i'm not completely sure what you need pc-wise to run it flawlessly or at all, but i'm going to be able to test it on some lower-power pc's in a day or two.

As for guides, we honestly haven't really thought about it, which is bad thinking on my part. I think a general guide with some tips on how to get started is a good idea though.
For going deep into individual mods, I would highly recommend just going to their pages/wikis. It's hard to instruct the player on how to use every mod to the fullest extent possible.
For trying to really combine mods, find something in the pack that catches your eye and research it using the almighty http://ftbwiki.org/Feed_The_Beast_Wiki. Then try and expand on whatever item/mod/mechanic it is and combine it with other things you know or want to know more about.

My personal take on how to get started doing all the things:
-Immediately go into Mekanism. The mod is full of easy-to-make machines and items that will advance you quickly, like it's methods for ore processing (super early game doubling) and ore mining (digital miner - OP as heck, better than a quarry). You can also use it to produce steel easily.
-Get into Tinkers' Construct and build a smeltery.
-Try and go for an early angel ring. It's difficult to craft (since it needs a nether star and unstable ingots) but those can be acquired rather quickly with a little hard work. Once you find a nether fort you can use a Tinkers' cleaver with beheading modifiers to get wither skulls easily. As for killing the wither... i don't know what to tell you besides glhf.
-Once you have the ores, make a Big Reactor for a ridiculous amount of power. You can convert that power to EU if you want using Power Converters.

If you have any more questions or need any help, feel free to ask here :). Also, if you find any bugs then it would be great if you could report them here. The ones that I can fix I will, if I can't I'm having 1230james prepare a "known issues" section on this thread.

A quick note - when version 2.x of the pack is out, it is recommended (but NOT required) to make a new world. There's a lot of new worldgen that will be implemented from Metallurgy, Ars Magica 2, etc. If you want to keep your old world then you can either load new chunks or try retrogenerating the things you want.

haven't tried the pack but I just saw ur last post and was thinking ae2stuff broken? that doesn't sound right. I've used it in many packs and the last couple of builds were extremely stable. They also add some interesting things like the wireless connector and ae viewer. I tend to think of that mod as a must-have when ae's involved now.

Also, just for my edification, what mod had a conflict with simply jetpacks? That seems like a big thing to remove, forces ic2 flight or exu if it's in the pack. I love me my soularium jetplate.

We were having a small problem with simply jetpacks that turned out to be fixable, but we removed it anyway since we deemed it unnecessary to have in the pack. There are so many flight options (Thaumostatic harness, Mekanism jetpack, IC2 jetpack, angel ring, botania flight, etc.

In the versions of AE2Stuff we tested, opening multiple GUIs from the mod caused crashes and world corruption. The crash logs were extremely vague and it was impossible to discern whether it was a mod conflict or not, but until we can acquire a version that works for us it is staying out of the pack.

That's too bad about simply jetpacks since it is obviously much better than all the other options combined.

Very strange about ae2stf. I've only had some strange issues in SMP with year+ older versions of the mod. Used to be that if you placed a pattern creator down it'd reboot server each and every time. Other than that tho, no versions I've played with (ssp or smp) in last year have given me any issues.

The pack is going to be updated to version 3.0.0 soon. Planning to add a little more exploration-focused mods like AbyssalCraft and ChromatiCraft, re-adding Reika's mods (for good this time, we decided they should stay in the pack) and I'm planning on making some balance tweaks and trimming down some fluff mods that aren't necessary like Hopper Ducts.
