It may be an issue with the resource pack your using if your using one at all. I too have had this problem from time to time in both 1.6.4 and 1.7.10 packs but typically I was able to solve the issue by removing them and replacing them in their slot then eating some food.

yea, it's a shame
it's quite a good modpack with some nice HQM quests, I had quite a bit of fun playing this pack
Yes I'm rather sad this has does not seem to be continuing to be developed, I really like the pack and I'm about to release a new let's play series using it. I guess I will just stick with the 1.2 version for the series, at least I probably won't have to worry about updating the pack in the middle of the series.
Keep in mind if you play even the 1.2 version you'll run across an issue when it comes time to craft the ender chest and ender tank because NEI has the same recipe for both and they are crafting quests so you can't even cheat your way around it.
just minetweaker the recipes, that should fix the problem.
or if you can't minetweaker it, just spawn in the admin quest book, complete the quest, throw away the resources it'd take to complete it and claim the rewards
Maybe the Offical FTB team should pick this pack up and "run" with it. it already is semi built.

Pretty sure it protects to build height limit [255].
Any ideas on best way to tile these [or how to figure that out]?

So finished the first quest line [obvious by above post] and kinda bummed had to turn in my armor [with no recipe replacements 
]. Looking at the various pack options and discovered the Ender IO Enchanter to turn Book and Quill + vanilla items into Enchanted Books. Does anyone know if there's mod interaction for this? Looking to get Magnetization onto a book without playing the random Enchant table minigame.

Has it downloaded the modpack completely? A couple of things can cause this, 1) Not enough memory allocated for the pack 2) The pack didn't download correctly.
To fix the download issue, click options, advanced options and change the download location to CurseCDN. Hopefully one of those will fix it.

I gave you an answer [since it seems this thread isn't very active] based on my experience and your limited description of your problem. You stated you couldn't start the pack. This implies the pack downloaded for you. If the pack isn't downloading, you should probably specifically state that in your ask. If other 3rd party packs work for you, you could state that also. You could have also mentioned if you were able to re-downloaded the pack successfully.
Nutshell...being as descriptive as possible with your problem with get you to the correct solution the fastest.
