In many larger modpacks (Kitchen Sink packs in particular) killing the Wither will rapidly become a trivial task. Hardcore Wither aims to remedy that; but rather than simply buffing the Wither, it is buffed on a per-player basis. Simply put: the more Withers you kill the tougher the fight gets (and the greater the rewards).
Hardcore Wither keeps track of the number of Wither spawns and kills each player is present at (Wither Experience), and uses the combined Wither Experience of the player(s) present at a Wither Spawn to calculate how much to buff the Wither by. If no player is present at a Wither Spawn, it simply increments the difficulty based upon the last Wither spawn in that world.
There are several different special abilities the Wither can receive when being buffed, boosted health for example. Each special ability's parameters are configurable, and they are all diableable on a per-dimension basis.
There is also a (configurable) feature to enable Tinkers' Construct Green Heart drops under certain conditions.
