1.6.4 modpacks on a 10.6.8 mac

As the title states, I am on a 10.6.8 mac. I am under the impression that the new 1.6.4 modpacks require Java 7. Java 7 is not compatible with a less than 10.7 mac from hat I understand. Am I screwed? Is there no work around, or am I wrongly under the impression that I have to have Java 7? I've been playing FTB since day one, I hate to think that it has come to an end.

It is compatible with LWJGL 2.9, which is what ships with the 1.6.4 packs.
To get the older packs to work, you will have to update the LWJGL in that pack.
