1.4.1: keepInventory

What is the bug:
The command /gamerule keepInventory true does not work. This is extremely frustrating for me, especially if a hard monster is guarding my stuff. How can I fix this? Is there something I am missing? I have the newest version... is there a new command I don't know?

Can it be repeated:
do /gamerule keepInventory true and kill yourself... you will lose everything

How did you get it working? I'm having the same issue and have tried a few different things and can't figure it out!
