[1.12.2] Extra Utilities 2 Deep Dark Mobs Too Strong?

I was mining in the Deep Dark, wearing full enchanted diamond armor and with 10 hearts, and was one-shot by a spider. When I recovered my items, the durability on the armor was almost completely gone. (Thank Notch for Unbreaking III.) This strikes me as being remarkably unfair. How am I supposed to protect myself from a random mob that hits harder than a boss? There's nothing in the config that allows adjusting this.

I don't have any mods that add more mobs, so afaik, there are no grues in my game. If you mean being damaged by the dark, I've had that happen and it only deals damage a bit at a time. And I'm totally down with Deep Dark mobs being extra-tough, but one-shotting me in full enchanted diamond armor seems a bit much.
