1.0.3: ME cables pick up line of machines for 3 seconds then goes dark

What is the bug:
as the title states, i have a line of me cables going into the basement to connect to the ore processing machines (playing along with dire) but the cable only picks up one channel. if i break and replace the cable, everything is fine for 3 seconds before going down to 1 channel. am i doing something wrong?

well ive got a dense cable coming from the controller that now picks up the autocrafting interfaces but will not pick up the ore processing machine input/output chests.
