Version:
1.0.1

What is the bug:
Whenever Witchery Hobgoblins spawn near Villagers, they kill them. This bug means it is rather hard to keep villagers if they have a trade you need or want. This can also be a cause of lag when I enter an affected area, as the Minecraft installation has to keep track of Hobgoblins attacking and killing Villagers.

Mod & Version:
witchery-1.7.10-0.20.6

Paste.feed-the-beast.com log:

Can it be repeated:
N/A

Known Fix:
Hopefully the Witchery mod creator has a fix they can publish to turn off this unwanted aggressive behavior, as I could not find it in the config files.

Not a bug at all. It's what Hobgoblins do - they take over villages and replace the villagers

What I really want to know, then, if this is a feature, can it be turned off? I really don't find that many villages and I don't go to the Nether much to get potions to cure them with, so I would much prefer to find intact villagers with trades around.

Cheers ...

As far as I'm aware it can't be turned off. You basically just have to try and keep your villagers away from hobgoblins if you want them to survive
