Mods folder is empty, tried forcing update and still not working

Try using launcher version 1.4.4 rather than 1.4.5, fixed it for me.

1.4.5??? o-O wasn't 1.4.4 released the other day or am I missing something...

cause 1.4.3 and 1.4.4 both don't work.

You can try selecting CurseCDN as the download server in the advanced options.
