Unfortunately according to jadedcat's post (thanks for the link) the itemducts are unremovable.
I got around that by just removing them with MCedit.

just wondering if anyone else is having a problem with item ducts?
After the update they seem to have become invisible and I can't remove them, nor can I place other blocks in the spot where my pipes used to be.
