IC2 would be a lot more fun IMO if I didn't have to turn ingots into plates into casings to craft everything. It is not like that adds any kind of a challenge, just an annoyance, and it also takes up a lot more inventory space if I miscalculate how many ingots I need to turn in to plates. Also...

If you are really set on building a nice base first, you could just hop into creative mode. Sometimes I start a modpack by building a giant base that I like in creative mode, and then I go into survival mode and play it like a normal survival series. I don't actually spawn anything like machines...

Usually I just set things up so that every ore available to mine has it's own pulverizer and 2 redstone furnaces attached to it, then I pump the ingots into the correct chest or AE system from there. Interesting idea though. I usually avoid industrial craft because I prefer not to hammer ingots...
