If you tweak the java arguments, you can get it to run garbage collection concurrently to put some load on a second core. That's probably the best you can do until someone gets tick threading working.

Not quite sure what you are asking. In Tinker's Construct, creating metal tools require melting and casting metals. They can be repaired with just regular ingots, however. And you can still make most ingots with just a furnace. Do you mean you want to disable vanilla tools? You can do that...

Click the Edit Mod Pack button. Select the mods you need from the Disabled Mods side and click Enable. Biomes O' Plenty, Hats, Hatstand, and Power Converters.
