How about 108 endoflames with a water trench between them. Drop the coal into a hopper and use a comparator to turn off the buildcraft pipe. The coal comes from a forestry tree farm/biofuel generator.

Is it just me, or is the extremely dedicated HQM quest still bugged? I still can't complete it. I wiped my HQM data and used hmq edit to catch everything up and it still locks up on this questline.

I had that problem as well, but after I upgraded tic tooltips as nightandstars' post above it stopped.

Go for the Bibliocraft Atlas. Its part of a questline as well. I don't know much about Bibliocraft, but I think there is even a higher tier atlas, but the one I am using so far is more than adequate. I use it in the Nether and have no problem getting lost with it. I don't even bother with F3...
