the vault is just a large portion of the maze that is solid on the map. you have to break in, but there are sand tnt traps around the chests so you have to be extremely careful or you will blow up the loot as well

i went there without turning off those 3 biomes, and in 1.4.5 and its still there, only difference is that its an extreme hills biome, with no trees on it. the ravine and the village are still there as well. just missing the trees
