Brains in jars from Thaumcraft can store XP orbs they pick up off the ground.
XP turtles can also absorb orbs and automatically enchant stuff. Check out the ComputerCraft forums to make turtles less intimidating.
Nothing really good to do with your 97 levels though.
So I like building big things.
It's an arch. That's my vanilla server house, done mostly with cast cobblestone. Honestly it was a bit too spacious for vanilla and I decided I didn't like living in round things.
And that's a slightly old picture of my Castillo de San Marcos on a FTB...
It's been done before. I abandoned that method and went to bees though because oil fabricators eat an unreasonable amount of FPS. Adding in UE or 1.5x will open even stronger loopholes.

He's probably using Adv. Machines.
My solution is always to just generate a bit of power constantly and leave the torches on all the time so the machines are always ready to go at full speed. There is also a very simple vanilla redstone solution; invert the signal. Put a torch on the wall...
Worlds that are utterly or mostly flat will have a lot of visible Thaumcraft dungeons/chests and a fair number of villages to plunder if you also have that symbol, so your friend was telling the truth.
The Cave World symbol generates a nether-like system of huge and very strange "caves" below...
Are you just burning it in the mat fab in place of scrap?
With some golems or Applied Energistics you can make both input and output automatic and non-laggy. A formerly frustrating machine is now a thing of beauty.
Try full length, rising, east, normal sun, full length, setting, east, normal sun.
You could also write zero length, noon, normal sun - but that would be less interesting.
