How to add mods to an FTB beyond server

It should be as simple as shutting down, adding the mod to the correct folder and restarting. If you're getting a crash, try posting a pastebin of the crash log so that the techies can dig out the pertinent bits.

    Direwolf 1.12 Steam Production

Advanced Generators has it's own Syngas production, which wasn't overly complicated to set up. I don't remember if that used steam as an intermediary step or not. Either way, the Advanced Generators setups should be a viable option for you to create power with it without the steam.

Quarry automation + sorting to Applied Energistics?

I tend to have a combination of the above suggestions. I usually have a physical storage system (Storage Drawers are very simple for this) before I enter the ME stage, so I just add a Storage Bus to the Drawer Controller/Slave in order to have everything available in network. This means that...

To Restart or not to Restart That is the question

Does COFH world generation still have a retrogen option? That should be available for 1.12. If you don't have it in the pack already, you could add it in, retrogen, then drop it without much hassle.

    Coal from Charcoal

If you could convert charcoal to coal, you would be able to chain the infinitely renewable wood to charcoal to coal to coal coke. I'm sure the pack makers never intended for easily renewable coal coke, even though the transfer process would be slow and a PITA to set up.

Throwing together a quick pack to introduce a newbie

Actually, Obsidian itself might be a decent chest reward, seeing as it's a pain to mine manually and consumes lava to make it. That and a chance for Ender Pearls (Eye of Ender, Ender Lilly, etc.) would make me raid a complex or two at minimum. I would be happier to find an Ender Pearl than a...

Throwing together a quick pack to introduce a newbie

You briefly mentioned loot tables... Not sure of an easy way to do it, but custom loot tables, particularly for exploration reward, is somewhere I think most packs drop the ball. Even Sprout, as adventure based as it was, felt like the structure loot tables were very underwhelming. I'm...

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

Yeah, I used RFTools to autocraft (iron) tools for them for my Sprout play. I intend on using Immersive Engineering to autocraft in my new custom pack, mainly because I've not used it before.

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

Eventually, you get your village set up with a Warehouse and a few Delivery Men. This helps keep the village working, while giving you more leash to do other things than spoon feed. At some point, the devs aim to implement a villager capable of autocrafting, which should keep everyone set up...

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

I agree that they start off quite slow. However, given the time to upgrade their buildings, fit them with tools not made of wood/stone, and allow them to level up a bit, they aren't completely useless. If they were full speed out of the gate, there would be no point in upgrading them at all...

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

I'll admit, I haven't tried it since 1.7. I just assumed it would still work the same in later versions, which is often grounds for disappointment.

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

If you're going to use a mod like MFR to hold your zombie villager, it should be noted that if you apply the cure, then capture them, any subsequent spawns from that Safari Net will also already be in the process of curing (may have to choose exact copy, I forget). Since villager profession is...

I haven't seen any Peaceful Table mods, but Peacefulpack offers ways to get drops without combat. I've not used it personally, but it may be an option.

Architecturecraft is also along the same lines, if you haven't tried it.

Throwing together a quick pack to introduce a newbie

I didn't mean to start anything by my above. I just didn't want you to end up in hot water over redistribution. Some shady sites were doing redistribution (probably still some out there) and putting it behind an adwall and removing credits where they are due. Those A-holes caused people to be...

Hardware - The Ultimate Server: What would it take, what would it do?

Ditch any notion of Windows, and run Linux or similar. Keep the overhead nice and low so your server has as much of the hardware where you want it. I, too, have seen conflicting information on the multi-threadedness of Minecraft in later versions. Clock speed per core is still more important...

Throwing together a quick pack to introduce a newbie

If you intend to share the pack, I recommend going through the effort of publishing it on Curse. Last I knew, it was highly frowned upon to distribute mods outside of that venue, and I don't want to see any BS come your way over either not knowing or simply misunderstanding. It will also allow...

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

The leads breaking is likely just the Vanilla bug (since at least 1.6) that breaks leads when the chunk they are placed in is unloaded then loaded again. I found it annoying for other reasons than Kobolds, but I usually made sure any slaves I had working were chunkloaded. To expand on this...
