interesting choice of mods. I started a world with my brothers a while back with the same setup. DW20 with all the magic stuff removed. We haven't added anything, but adding Mekanism and big reactors would be my recommendation.

Odd... i never had issues getting enough certus quartz to start my system. The problem was usually not enough gold. Just make yourself a TiC hammer with fortune 3 and go caving. You will endup with enough quartz to get going and a lot of other goodies as well.

I just use an Ender Chest on top of my quarry and use a tesseract to send power. I just wish the tesseract would send power directly to the quarry. Adding a redstone conduit between them solves the problem, but its yet 1 more block I have to deal with.
