Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

In my ongoing FTB Ultimate world, I've amassed a few thousand of each of XCraft's crystals (the coloured ones as well as the dreaded "icicles of the devil"). Is there any practical use for those? Anything fun I can do with them? If not, my plan would be to fill a 4k storage cell with the crap...

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

I know that usually, a block in Minecraft will only be loaded into memory if it has at least one of its sides bordering a non-solid block (such as air or torches). A block completely hidden beneath other blocks on all sides will remain unloaded, right? However, chunk loading errors in FTB...

    Silly mod, Abstract Power Generation!

Another idea: Egg boiler. Multiblock(?) structure that generates power when eggs are placed in its center. Put chickens in it for passive power generation. How the chickens stay unharmed whereas the eggs are boiled, remains a mystery. You can also have the opposite of the initial generator and...

What's new in modded minecraft today?

Care to elaborate, please? I don't follow the community that much, so most of the news I get from here. I see this thread as a news thread, not a "news about other news somewhere else" thread. Oh, and AE2 looks glorious. One day, when I've decided that Ultimate no longer does it for me, its...

    Silly mod, Abstract Power Generation!

Is it possible to do a power generator/storage block that only generates power when its chunk is unloaded? You have to leave the area for the block to charge, and come back to discharge it and use its power.

^Not trying to be Captain Obvious here or anything, but... pistons? EDIT: Wait, saw just now that you had mentioned it already. In that case, I guess I have nothing to add. EDIT2: Oh, wait again! You said you wanted to open the wall, not necessarily close it. In that case, a Block Breaker...

    Deep base ideas

Depends on the server, I guess. Some people make temporary bases, mine a little, build up some loot, then abandon it in favour of someplace better. Other people log on to the server once, play a few hours, and never come back. My idea was to imitate an abandoned base like that.

    Deep base ideas

If you're on a server and want to hide your base, try having your entrance inside of or near a crappy, poorly hidden newbie-looking base that screams of abandon. An all too obvious "Door in the cliff" entrance, a couple of rooms with Iron Furnaces, chests with some basic loot and a bed. Perhaps...

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

My quarry (FTB Ultimate) unearthed something peculiar today: On an otherwise smooth and level Flat Bedrock (hence the name of the mod) surface, a single block of Bedrock jutted out. On top of it is a Water Source Block. This block can be collected with a bucket, or overwritten by placing...

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Do anybody know how many blocks, on average, are loaded into memory per chunck of completely untouched terrain? I'm mostly interested in flat terrain such as Plains, Meadows or Tundra. The minimum possible amount seems to be 512 (Entirely flat surface + bedrock, all other blocks in the chunk are...

    Minecraft Darwin Awards 2014

Nano Boots require a single Diamond to craft a usable pair. Long Fall Boots require four. Seeing as I had a quarry at the time, I must have had a few diamonds, but I recall I was saving up for something, and decided to go for the less Diamond-costly route.

    Minecraft Darwin Awards 2014

The other day, I put my Jetpack and Nano Boots in MFEs to charge them. While waiting for them to charge, I decided to go out and jump into my quarry to see if it had uncovered any nice XP-giving ores for me to dig manually. After all, it had dug all the way down to layer 15 or so, so there...

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

Is there? I found that Nichrome coils can be used in the recipe for Fusion Coils, but according to the wiki, Kanthal coils have no purpose other than increasing the heat capacity of an IBF.

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

The only possible use for Kanthal Heating Coils requires exactly 4 coils to be used. The crafting recipe yields 3 coils...

    Industrialization Suggestion Thread

I can see a furnace setup like this be in the spirit of this mod's mission statement: 1. Build huge, hollow multiblock chamber. 2. Stack ores (and fuel?) in chamber. Close its door or seal it otherwise. 3. Feed furnace with sufficient fuel. Turn on power. 4. Wait for a few minute while the...

    Industrialization Suggestion Thread

I think scalability would be a key factor. You could make the machines 3x3x3 or 10x10x10, or anything in between, it would accomplish the same task, but the speed of the process, and the amount of fuel required to run it, would be different. A huge, house-sized blast furnace with an accordingly...

What is an easy way to create ultimate hybrid solar panels?

Do you use GregTech? If so, going the route via centrifuging Platinum Dust is another way to get Iridium. Or mining the End, I guess.

    Industrialization Suggestion Thread

Chiming in on multiblocks. I can imagine a huge, multiblock furnace requring a stupid amount of power and time to get running, but its roaring flames would provide usefulness in spades for players knowing to take advantage of it. Not only for smelting ores or dust, but it could be a fun way to...

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Yeah, I know it's possible to just quarry the ocean, and I've employed the water trick several times myself. But the thing is that the hydrodynamical calculations put a strain on the computer, so I'd prefer to be able to empty the hole after the digging is done. With dry-land quarrying, all you...

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

I've heard that the reason why quarry holes cause lag, is because more blocks have to be rendered due to the sides of the quarry. That got me thinking... given flat bedrock and sufficient time, wouldn't you reach a point where the quarry is big enough to reduce lag again? Several chunks would...
