Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

It only spreads to dirt and grass (and mycelium maybe) the same way grass spreads. So one block horizontally but up to 5 vertically. So that means if you have dirt close enough but there's a solid block on top it won't spread there.

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

Well, if you only need to evenly spread mana you don't really have to time the turntable. But yes, sparks are the way to go. They won't do much without augments, though. The only use without augments is to put them on terrestrial agglomeration plane and mana enchanter so they pull from pools...

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

You don't need any timing if you use the redstone spreaders. The comparator does the checking for you. Just have a line come off of the comparator on the portal pool that turns the signal off for the overflow spreader when the pool isn't full so that a regular spreader on the same pool can fill...

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

That's why there's a spreader turntable for that kind of stuff. Sparks also might work for the portal's mana pools without augments, maybe. Normally mana pools with sparks won't pull mana from other pools with sparks but maybe the pyloned pools are different in that. Haven't tried it myself...

    a very good tinker's idea

Botania basically does this already with Timeless Ivy. You can apply it to tools that can be repaired on an anvil and make them repair with mana like regular manasteel or terrasteel items. Try to craft a TiC tool with the Ivy and 3 pieces of repair material for that tool. If it doesn't work...

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

I just want to comment on the gold thing. Minecraft is actually doing it almost right with gold being a crap tool material in durability. It was also as bad as wood in speed before but that was changed to make them have a point existing even though I'm pretty sure no tools that saw actual use...

    Question about MineFactory Reloaded

I don't remember, haven't those in a while. It's kind of confusing that you have to put one of them under the ground.

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

Well I don't really know how the recipes are done. But I've only really seen damaged items in repair recipes and NEI shows those with the full durability tool making a full durability tool.

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

It is metadata, undamaged tool is 0, one damage taken is 1, etc. You'd think it was that simple but metadata in recipes is absolute. All the Thermal Foundation dusts and ingots are under the same ID but different metadata for example. You can use different dust for some recipes because of ore...

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

You know, vanilla Minecraft already established this concept of only pristine tools allowed in recipes with the dispenser so it's not like mods are just being annoying for no reason.

    Question about MineFactory Reloaded

If there aren't any trees grown for a short while the Harvester will go through its idle loop. It can take a while after a tree has grown for it to get cut down if the area is fairly large because the Harvester has to check the whole area after that idle loop to see if there is anything to...

Milk farm without MFR and Autonomous activator

Yeah, it's kind of neat. You can make automatic cake baking and placing for Kekimurus with just Botania added to vanilla game since Botania also makes seeds, saplings, etc. able to be planted with the dispenser.

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

The numbers are misleading. That test was done on a flat world that only had dirt and grass. Silk Touch upgrade doesn't take more power unless the block requires it so the minimal increase comes from the grass being silk touched. If you are quarrying regular terrain there's going to be a ton of...

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

Nothing against cross mod things but those materials are seriously over the top. Tinkers' Construct base mechanics for the bows got nerfed (not enough yet, imo). But here comes Extra TiC adding signalum and enderium with 4x the values of the best materials in base TiC breaking the bow damage...

    Mining.

SS rank Terra Shatterer is baller for manual mining. Even S rank is great already. If you have Efficiency V on it and enough haste from other gear you can instamine stone and blast through the world. Ring of the Mantle OR Traveller's Gloves with 500 redstone, one of these is enough. Ring of Far...

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

If you're really that conserned about wasting 2 iron ingots you could save one by repairing the damaged shears on an anvil with one ingot if it wasn't too damaged.

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

Why is Extra TiC updated that far in Infinity? What the hell modpack devs? Check your mods for new stuff that isn't ready for use yet. Seriously. At least disable Thermal Foundation support in the config if you want to update the mod even though those metals are the only reason to update it.

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

Okay, the wither skeleton thing works like this: Any skeleton spawning in the Hell biome has a chance to be a wither skeleton (very high chance obviously) but only Fortresses will spawn skeletons (and blazes) naturally. So skeleton spawner spawns wither skeletons anywhere in the Nether at the...

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

Your question is slightly wrong but the answer you want is yes. The Nether is a dimension that only has one biome generating in it; Hell. You can get Hell biome elsewhere (Mystcraft) and the only difference is that you can place water there. That mechanic is specific to the Nether dimension...

Yeah you can even make a "frame" contraption with slime blocks in 1.8.
