You could always right click the saves folder and select " Restore Previous Versions " and just copy the last save folder out of it. This is assuming you have system restore enabled on your windows computer. Not always garanteed but I find it usefull for accidental overwrites.

Who says you have to use just a solitary quarry(plus) to clear out such a large area? Using several will speed up the process significantly.

I agree on the holding off untill it becomes recommended as I have heard a few stories of players losing their worlds on updating to 2.1.3 while others update fine with no problems. Not sure what causing it as I have not updated myself to check. I think i'll wait this one out.

Nice flat plains biomes but I am rather picky about the neighbouring biomes. They must be Jungle, Desert and Taiga. The reason for such requirements can be summed up in one word... BEES!!!
