Took a quick look at the wiki, and it uses a journal fragment whenever you research a spell. These fragments are found in guess? The ruins.

I'm going to guess that flight, life tap, healing ring would be all that is particularly useful from what I've seen. That spell, divine intervention or something that takes you back to your bed might be helpful as /home won't be available.

Doesn't the research table require one of those ancient book things per spell? And these are only found in world gen so...

That's what I thought also at times, and when I heard of the research I thought it could prevent this, but nope, to do research it consumes hidden knowledge tombs for every spell researched, and IMO deletes the point of research.
