so tilled garden soil plus crop stick to plant magic crops?

i do it. i place garden soil in range of water and till it but i cant plant any crop and i cant interact with the garden trowel.

i cant plant crops without a graden trowel, and even when planted with help of one they never grow. what am i doing wrong?
