I tried a slightly older version of Forge, and that worked. You can also start one in the FTB launcher, and then copy the game save to the MultiMC instance. I have used that method before.

For me too. I have 2 accounts on 2 laptops. One works fine the other crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the launcher. Once you hit launch it runs normally for a little and then both windows close. Have never managed to play on second account, so yes its repeatable
