So my launcher wouldn't open and using the troubleshooting guide, I found out that my java version 8u66 was the problem. I had recently updated from 8u65 to 8u66, so reverting back to 8u65 fixed it and the launcher opened again. I'm just posting this here for reference in case anyone else has...
