As beginners pickaxe I recommend a blue slime tool rod and a blue slime tool binding with a stone pickaxe head. To get the slime balls, kill a bat, morph into it, fly to a slime island and profit ;D You can repair it with cobble AND it's got high durability.

I don't see why people like TE. Yes, I used to use it in 1.5.2 and CoFH did a good job on it. I'll miss it (if not getting ported). But, Mekanism and IC2 are *perfect* replacements. Really, there is no more what you wish ;) Anyways, I enjoy the majority of the mods!

The plates change is fun. But I like GT too. I use a lot of IC2 machines and the crops are just cool.
