Specs:
i5-3330
10GB RAM
graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7700

Java 64-bit is installed and 2.5GB is assigned to FTB.

I have researched this a bit but yet to find anything that helps.

Some modpacks get more than others, for example: Unleashed gets around 2x the FPS as Infinity, so maybe there's a certain mod that's causing the problem?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks.

I'm no computer expert, but if you have 10GB of RAM, I don't know why you would limit your java allocation to just 2.5GB? I would go for the full 4.0GB which most people will tell you is the practical limit for java (due to Java "Garbage Collection" issues). Actually, I think the suggestion will be to use 3.5GB and not 4.0GB, but let other people chime in and see what they say.

When I ran FTB Monster, I actually allocated 7GB of RAM to it and didn't have any problems. But I was also using a lengthy "java arguments" string. Speaking of which... are you using any java arguments? I don't use java arguments anymore, but I would suggest you at least use a java argument for Garbage Collection at a minimum. Since you mentioned Unleashed modpack, I have to assume you are still using Java v7 and not Java v8, is that correct?

Some links to peruse - good luck, this java argument stuff is a real mess to figure out.

(that site says you must be using Optifine, I disagree with that completely)

Thanks for the quick reply,

I'm using 2.5GB because in previous threads some people had mentioned that FTB doesn't use more than 2GB. When i first downloaded FTB i didn't even know there was this option and i believe it what set to 6GB if memory serves me correct, but changing it didn't have any effect. I will play around with it though due to your suggestion, as i'm not as clued up on java as other languages.

As for java arguments and the version, i have used a few that have been recommended in forums so i will look into more useful ones, and i'm not sure what version im using so i'll look that up.

Thank you for the links as well bro, I will check them out and post any updates I have!

No problem on the links, I hope you can figure it out because I didn't really find much help or advice out there when I was struggling with this java stuff. Everyone seems to have their own ideas about "what is correct" and what isn't. Best bet is just to spend the time and try a bunch of different solutions and see which ones work out best for you and your computer.

For 1.7 modpacks, you can update to Java v8, but if you're still playing any modpacks using Minecraft v1.6.4 or earlier (you mentioned Unleashed modpack) then you won't be able to use java v8 for those. Running two versions of java can be a pain in the neck, which is why I decided to give up on all 1.6.4 and earlier modpacks and only play the 1.7 versions now. Then I don't need java v7 (which is a bit of a security risk to run an older out-of-date version of java).

Yeah i would prefer to play the more recent versions, hence why i asked the question. On Unleashed i was getting 60+ but on recent ones such as infinity i was only getting 15 max.

Yeah, thanks again. I will research as much as possible, was hoping there would be a quick fix but i guess not!

Newer version modpacks simply require a lot more resources to run. 1.4.7 or 1.5.2(Like Unleashed) simply run smoother on lesser machines than 1.6.4 and much much smoother than 1.7.

And based on you saying you have 10GB, I am guessing you are using a laptop and your GFX is indeed a AMD Radeon HD 7700"M" with shared memory(although still cant really figure out how that ends up resulting in 10GB unless there is some really fucked up RAM slotting, or it being tripple channel). So your laptop might simply not be "up to spec" to run the new packs at the same performance.
