Recently my work updated their firewall or added a proxy server or something and my Launcher won't connect through it. I get the walls of red java errors in the console, and selecting launch says mincraft servers are down when they aren't.

What info do i need to give IT to have them add ftb launcher as an exception? I believe they already added mojang, but ftb seems to be requiring something different.

Am I the only one that scratched my head when I saw that your IT is willing to add an exception to a WORK firewall for a video game? lol...what kind of work do you do?

i dont even know if they are located in my building, i have to submit a ticket. I was thinking about just telling them that though, just launch it, although the console doesnt say specifically which is why i was asking.

And btw, as no one gave you an answer (and use at your own risk if the it guys do not know what they are really opening and you lose your work.. Sorry man, but I find it pretty hard to believe you are allowed to play in you work xD not personal though) just go to cmd and put Netstat -b when launching ftb to know what port is it trying to connect, just follow the list until you find the ftb process and look at the ip, the thingy that follows the : is the port... Give that to your IT

Just checked my ftb, it does an single connection and so the -b will not be able to show it, use netstat -b -a instead to show listening ports too

It amuses me to read this at work, then I am compelled to ask where to you work so I can apply there.

this will likely get a mere mortal fired, but here's how i (kinda) got away with it.

pre-tether internet days, at home i was running a small linux server running a few goodies on an old Linksys NSLU2. from work I'd SSH into this little thing on port 443 (they blocked ssh port on me, i just went through https, and they said touche) and tunnel all of my traffic through it to the NSLU2 and proxy through it.

I'm the solo IT Admin at my work, so what I say goes on the network.

Mehehehe.

I so did not install a fancy video card on my work PC for the sole purpose of MC. No sir!

What you're asking for is a good way to get fired. When you had free reign and then meet a firewall, it's a good bet there's activity logging going on. I'd just focus on doing work so that you continue to have a job.
